A truck that does everything? No one makes such a truck. You wish to purchase a truck that will handle all of your future needs but not sure what they are (trailer type, size)? Let me tell you a little story, one of many from my 43 years in the car business...

Had a good customer come in one day and he says to me, "Mom (called his wife mom) and I are buying an Airstream and need a truck to pull it. We knew all the trailer essentials, where they would be driving and just needed to get the truck specs right. We were on the borderline of axle ratio and maybe the choices were a 3.55 vs a 4.10 and he could have really gone either way. I told him he would look at maybe 1-2 MPG difference between the two ratios but the 4.10 would pull better and that's would I would suggest. He said he'd rather have the gas mileage. We ordered the truck and a couple month later when they picked it up I wished them happy trails. A few months later he comes in, kind of head down, and says, "Pete, I made a mistake." Immediately I thought of that axle ratio and that I should have twisted his arm a bit to go with my suggestion. I asked what the problem was and his reply... "Mom and I don't like camping."

So moral of the story, besides making sure the truck is right, is to make sure you like the lifestyle you envision. I would strongly suggest you rent a trailer or motorhome a few times as while many of us enjoy occasional or even full time "trailer life," it's not for everyone as evidenced by the many very slightly used trailers one can find for sale.

If you should decide that this is the life, nail down the trailer FIRST and then find the correct vehicle to pull it. With inventory levels being what they are these days you'll likely need to order that perfect truck.

I wish you all the best.
