80 mph with a fiver hooked on? That’s just stupid, no other way to describe it.

Riding a Harley at 90 mph isn't such a good thing to do either! I rode my Dad's Harley when I was about 18 years old, and I cranked that thing up to 100 mph on the interstate. Back then, I don't think even police cars could run that fast. With I hit 100, all I could think about was something my cousin said when I took him for a ride on my little honda 300. I got it up to about 45 mph and he was scared to death. I asked him why, and he said, when you were driving, all I could imagine was one red streak in the middle of the road stretch out for a mile! Um ... at 100 mph, I think the stretch would be longer but not quite as thick. I never attempted over the speed limit again, on my Dad bike, or the next 3 motor cycles I owned as they got bigger and bigger. I'm glad you did not end up a red streak in the middle of the road. And yes, not to bright for the fifth wheel driver either.

I had a Suzuki T500 way back when. 132 mph at midnight, looked down and thought darn that pavement looks smooth…let off and 70 felt like a crawl.
Bought a brand new 1979 Kawasaki KZ1000 MK II. That thing was scary fast.
No more bikes for me, they aren’t dangerous, the rest of the people on the road are!!!

Bikes....
I've owned many and loved them all. I think there is a "time" that the fun or excitement then takes a back seat to other, more pressing, issues.
In the 60s they were just starting and man I wanted one just didn't have the money. Then went through a Cushman "scooter" as my first entry and after that a lot of them.
Talking about "go fast"; Honda CB 305, then a CL? 350 (raised exhaust). Talking go fast; in the late 60s I was visiting with the owner of a motorcycle dealership thinking about a different bike. He had just received a Kawasaki 500 triple. Had me sit on the back and go for a ride. We spent most of the time on one wheel as that thing was a rocket....so I bought it. - then a Triumph Trident 750 triple and on.... Drove lots of them over 100mph and never worried about it but I didn't do "city" driving or dodge folks; I lived in the country. So decided to buy some little "dirt" bikes;
Bought a little 185cc "enduro" bike to go play with. Did that and took it to the river with some friends (he had the Honda enduro 350). Having a great time; driving maybe 10mph on those river side roads and "whap"; hit a rock or something that knocked the front tire sideways and sent me headfirst to the ground, unfortunately a big flat slab of caliche. Almost died after 19 skull fractures and much more. "Got back on the horse" with a Yamaha 400 off road bike and started competitive off roading so I would "feel at home".
Long story, kept road bikes and my play bikes for a while but after a while I didn't trust highway driving with the way folks are changing and off road was leaving DW "waiting" for me somewhere.
I love(d) the bikes and all the freedom, smell etc. they provide. I just got to the point that wasn't going to put DW or myself in a place that could harm us. Loved that Triumph....

Tires are the weak the tires I’m using are V rating at 149 mph . At the time your kZ 1000. I was riding 1978 ZS 1100, Yamahas first 4 cylinder it was pumping out 95 hp. I had mile to the next exit and didn’t want to follow .I think the nut pulling the fifer was getting excited to find a good place on the lake.

Danny I think it was 1976 I was still in the military in San Diego.I walked into a dealership and seen the Trident 750 and fell in love with it then and now. I almost bought it, the dealer told me they were very few of them on the road and today that Trident is worth it’s weight in gold.

Behind the visor did a "best bikes of the '80's" article a couple days ago....
https://www.webbikeworld.com/the-bes...-of-the-1980s/
Some of them I remember, others I've heard about, but never seen.
