5th wheel towing
After reviewing different post on different forums for the respective brand, It just seems to me that an all factory 2019 Silverado 2500HD diesel would only meet the specs of the very small 5ers. We have a TT and was considering going to a 5er but the floor plan we love is on the Cougar 364BHL and those numbers just aint gonna work.

you are correct. deisel 3/4 ton pu make great towers but poor hualers. The deiselgives it the power but also takes away about 800 lbs or more of payload.. That's the trade off made for the heavy deisel engine.

Many of us on these various forums started out with trucks that met the need for a current camper. But when wanting to get a larger/heavier camper learned the existing truck was under par, bite the bullet, took the financial loss, and traded for a heftier tow vehicle.
You have to make the decision. Bite the bullet and get a heftier truck, or settle for a lesser trailer and keep your current truck. You also have the option to just keep everything you currently have.
If you do decide to go with the heftier truck than get it right the next time. Get the dually, get the diesel, get the 3500 / 350, get the long bed, get the crew cab. You will never have to buy another tow vehicle again.

Anyone that has plans to haul a 5th Wheel Camping type trailer should set their minimum requirements for a tow vehicle as a 1 ton truck. SRW or DRW will depend on the trailer GVWR and the available payload number for their particular truck. And example of that might be a truck with a 3500-3600 lb payload. If you get a trailer that has 3300-3400 lbs of pin weight on it when it's loaded like you need it to be for camping, that leaves you with NO ROOM to put anything in the truck, as your hitch weight will like use up that extra 100 to 150 lbs of available payload. What would do with all the other things you want/need to put in/on the truck....passenger(s), extra fuel, toolbox with tools, firewood, etc. With 5th Wheel towing, it's all about the truck's payload numbers

Welcome aboard! I appreciate that you are walking into this already understanding the limitations rather than justifying a poor decision. Which ever way you go...stay safe.

Ditto dutchmensport!!
I towed a couple of fifth wheel trailers your trailers weight for 15 years with an older F250 diesel with after market exhaust brake. Then purchased a newer F350 crew cab dually, which was the best decision I ever made for its towing stability, TOWING CAPACITY SAFETY MARGIN, torque, horsepower, tow package and fifth wheel bed hitch puck system.

Yes, a 14,000# GVWR 5er will have a 22% pin of just over 3,000# now even a 3500 SRW will top out at around 4,000# payload leaving about 1,000# for family, stuff and hitch, you will eat that up fast.

Yea, I was just hoping the 2500 HD diesel that I have would be enough to handle the one 5er I really like and of course, the salesman says " no problem with that 2019 LP5 you are driving, you can pull almost anything"

When I upgrade our 5er a little over a year ago, I was to l could pull it. Yes, it pulled it, but was way over weight. After pulling it home (30 Miles) and a weekend outing (100 miles). I traded my 2500 for a 3500 DRW. What a difference!!

That salesman was absolutely correct, you can PULL most anything with that truck, but you are very limited as to what it can CARRY & stay within ALL the numbers regarding towing a rv.

Thanks for the input. If we were able to pull more often, I would do the same.
