I must agree 100% with the guys who say have a 30 amp rv outlet installed. It is safe, piece of mind and now can be used anytime without problems. I finally had one installed at my Gladstone house/garage in about 2003 for $300 and have the RV plugged in year round. At the beach house I had one installed in 2008 with the 4x4 post and underground wires along the driveway for $200. Not much money really and yes, I used to use a 15 amp outlet and that only works some times. A real problem if the A/C is needed with folks staying in the RV.

Waterproof extension cord 30 amp

May be a silly question, but if you run a 30 amp RV extension cord do you find a way to waterproof the connection between it and your rv plug? If so, what do you use? Thanks

Some extension cords have a formed lip so that when you plug your shore cord into it, the lip covers the edge and provides a water "resistant" seal. We routinely plug into a "flat" (non lipped) extension cord and haven't had any water issues yet and it's been a WET winter/spring.

I someone is going to go to the expense of having an RV outlet added remotely from a panel, it may be worth the little extra cost to have a 50 amp RV outlet installed instead. The advantage to this is larger wire and lower voltage drop to the outlet. Your RV breakers inside the RV will provide the protection when used on a 30 amp rig, and then when you upgrade to a larger rig, you're all set.
