Dish TV Antenna
I am thinking about having a Dish TV antenna mounted on my 5th Wheel any thoughts or concerns? I have the King Tailgater but I want something easy and ready to go.(Winegard TRAV'LER DISH 1000 Multi-Satellite TV Antenna)

Don't have experience, but have looked into options. My concern with a mounted solution would be line of sight. If you are under trees, you might not be able to lock on a satellite.

Yes that is a problem but when I run into that issue I can always hookup the tailgater and move it out from the trees
Thank you!

Having installed a couple of Trav'ler systems, I can tell you they are nice because they are automatic, but they are HUGE and you need lots of roof space to install. If you're using DISH for your service then the Trav'ler isn't needed for HD. I would use the Winegard carryout G2
http://www.winegard.com/carryout
I have an original carryout and it works great. I use an app on my phone to find line of sight and then just set the carryout down and plug it in.

Thanks for the info I should have plenty of room on a 35' 5th wheel I do have the King Tailgater now and I could mount that on the roof but I was hoping for a better connection but I do get HD with the tailgater.

Thanks for the good info, it sounds like the real dish is the way to go.

My Raptor came with a Winegard Road Trip SDI in motion dish, not sure why you would need the in motion because we leave it turned off while travelling but it works fine with our home direct tv box.

Dish
We have had a dish unit for several years, The great thing about it is thatwith the RV service is ,,,you can shut it off when you don't need it and return it on when you'r ready to. Draw backs are heavy clouds snoow raining hard. AND TREES.
I carry 100' of cable and made a direct hook up on the outside of the trailer to get a direct connection. Drilled through and purchased connectors from a store..
Also our 40.00 per month we added HBO for another 10.
Works for us.
Cheers

I think they all have problems with trees and rain and stuff I have a dish mounted in the roof and I carry a King Tailgater for when I am under the tree and I can move it around and I only pay for the month I am going to use it and $5.00 bucks to keep it active for when I am not using it.

We have had Directtv for nearly 25 years and have always enjoyed it. We miss our DVR when not at home (no pausing or rewinding as you are watching and no recording shows to watch later), we are also used to the channels that we get and some of them are not available through the basic cable provider that you generally get at the park. And, if you don't have cable, you have even less channels to chose from.
I know this thread is about Dish, but Im sure DTV is very similar.
With RV satellite, you must purchase the equipment, so there's a pretty hefty up front cost, but how are the monthly services charged? If you only use it one weekend every two months, is it really worth the cost? We really would like to be able to take our satellite television with us, but we hate to pay for things that we don't use much, unless the cost is minimal.

Mike, Dish Network has a month to month program where you buy one month at a time. Cancel anytime. We get about 120 channels and it covers most of what we like. The actual bill every month is $70.00. I'm not here to tell you it is as good as Xfinity unlimited with all sports packages and HBO 1-99 but it is better than an antenna.

If you have Dish Network at home it is only an additional $7.00 per month for one additional receiver in the RV. You can activate and deactivate that receiver on a monthly basis, but for $84.00 per year, I leave mine on. You receive the same channels as your home subscription provides. I too, use the Tailgater.

If you have Dish at home can't you use the Hopper to watch TV anywhere or do you need the WiFi to do that?
With my Dish in the 5TH Wheel I hooked up a hard dive to record just like a DVR
I don't have dish at home but as soon as I can change from U-verse I am going to get dish at home My month to month is $35 with Showtime and I have two revisers in the trailer one in the living room and one in the bedroom.

We mounted the Tailgater on the roof. It works great, except at times for those darned trees.
