LP through tunnels
I was traveling last week(not with TT) through some tunnels on 476 near Allentown, in Norfolk on 64, and over/under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel on Route 13. I wonderered for my future travels and hopefully others as well, whether TT's with 20 and 30lb LP tanks need to stop for inspections before those tunnels or if that is only for larger built in LP tanks onboard, etc. Just curious as I saw plenty of motorhomes, TT's, and Fiver's running through. I guess each tunnel might be different and any driver like myself should check the rules or pull over if unsure. Thanks

I'm only familiar with the Norfolk area tunnels. Yes, all vehicles with propane cylinders must stop at the inspection station. They write down your tag number, and watch as you shut off your valves.

As per the quote below from COMAR website vehicles carrying propane cylinders able to hold more than 10lbs. are not permitted in the Baltimore Harbor and the Fort McHenry tunnels. (I-895 ... I-95) I prefer taking I-695 West towards Towsen while towing instead of the suggested Eastern loop to the FSK Bridge. JM2˘, Hank
Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) govern the transport of hazardous materials across our toll facilities. Under these regulations, vehicles carrying bottled propane gas in excess of 10 pounds per container (maximum of 10 containers), bulk gasoline, explosives, significant amounts of radioactive materials, and other hazardous materials are prohibited from using the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). The Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695, the Baltimore Beltway) is a convenient alternative route for crossing Baltimore's Harbor.

I gotta say my first pull with my trailer was thru the tunnel in Norfolk. I was concerned about the propane check point and that I might miss it and driving the tunnel itself. I was assured, on this site, that I would be just fine, just pull over in the area for inspection. I was expecting an INSPECTION! The guard came out of her office, cell phone to her ear, shouted" you got your tanks turned off?" I nodded yes and she waived me on. The tunnel was a breeze. So much for security.
