2019 Cougar 29RKS Winterize

Water pump seems to be pushing air rather than sucking antifreeze. We have winterized normally in the past but the winterize switch does not seem to make a difference. Have even gone direct to water pump and it still pushes air and antifreeze out of the city water connection. Is our pump bad? Help.

If you can hear the pump I would think it’s working. Check the connection at the hook up make sure it’s tight. Also make sure your hose you are using to draw Frye antifreeze isn’t sucking any air. Maybe as a test put some water in the holding tank n see if the pump draws from it. If so then it good and problem is at your connection is my guess. I have the same unit n first time I winterized had same problem. It was the hose I was using to draw the antifreeze.

Your water pump is probably just fine and not damaged. If your system is "pushing air and antifreeze out of the city water connection" then you have a bad/leaking backflow valve IN the city water connection fitting. Remove the screen washer from the inside of the fitting where the water hose screws into your city water fitting and you'll see a small "plunger like piece". That is the "backflow valve" it has O-rings that can dislodge, so be careful. GENTLY push that plunger in and try to recenter it. It's spring loaded, so should offer some slight resistance as you push. That might solve your problem, but if not, then you'll probably need to replace the city water inlet fitting.

If you don't have time to do a replacement right now, you can go to any hardware store and buy a "garden hose plug" to simply screw into the city water inlet. That will stop the water/antifreeze from bubbling out of the fitting until you do have time to replace it.

Here's some photos of what you'll find in the city water inlet fitting and one type of "garden hose plug"...

What does "winterized normally" mean and what are you doing differently now? If you drained the water lines then pumped in antifreeze you will have air in the lines. The pump then will add antifreeze which will mix with the air and cause the flow from the faucets to "spit" antifreeze until all the air is purged.
