Walking On Wet Roof

I'm guessing it's a bad idea to walk on the roof when it's wet. However, I have no choice but to move my 364BHL tomorrow to my new site for next season, and it's going to be raining at the time.

Would you rather walk on the wet roof in order to close the sliders so the camper can be moved? Or risk closing the sliders with some leaves and pine needles on them? I will be able to reopen the sliders on Saturday/Sunday while I finish up winterizing activities before closing them up again for the winter.

I walk on a wet roof when I'm washing it....with DW on the ground yelling "watch out" about every 5 seconds. If you are just wanting to clean slide roofs I always (before toppers) just blew them off with a battery powered blower (if it was dry) or I had an extendable pole that had a brush on it. I had a collapsible ladder I put at one end and used the pole/brush to just push the debris off the other end and never got on the roof for that.

Put all the slides out and the awning. Either wear boat shoes or barefoot.

I use a telescoping ladder to acess the top of the slides and blow it off with a leaf blower, when necessay, since accessing the slide roof may require leaning over the side and that poses a very large safety risk of falling off the roof.

Check the photo of this guy sweeping off his slide roof in this article: https://www.getawaycouple.com/can-yo...-your-rv-roof/

I use tennis shoes. If you want a thrill try walking on a fiberglass motorhome roof when wet.

Thanks all! It wasn't as bad as I had imagined it could be. The roof material was pretty grippy, and I didn't need to get on any of the sloped surfaces to get to the tops of my slides.

Slide toppers mean you never have to worry about cleaning your slide top before retracting.

Those would have been nice today. Even though I swept off as much water as possible before getting off the roof, I still had some nice puddles inside that came off the slides when getting the trailer to our new site. Perhaps I'll get them installed next year, although I'm in for quite a large number at this point and should probably stop spending money for a little while.

I use to be a lot less careful and would joke to my wife that my medical deductible was cheaper than hiring someone. Now that I'm into my Medicare years, I'm a lot more "generous".

I avoid walking the roof whenever I can, and opt for the extension ladder and battery-powered blower but I still feel a little tingy thrill when I climb that ladder.

I’m on Medicare also, just spent two days on a 30’ motorhome tearing off a fiberglass roof, gluing new Luan and then a new fiberglass one piece roof back on.

for the "what's it worth" column? I NEVER retract my slides without brushing them off. I'll risk a wet roof (and have many, many times ... especially with dew in the morning) to climb up there and brush off the slides. Sometimes, I go barefoot if its warm enough outside. Otherwise sneekers with a rubber sole.

I just climb the ladder and use the broom we keep to sweep the floors wouldn't risk it if it were icey but wet rubber roofs have plenty of grip and these really don't have much slope

I did spend a few years as a younger man fabricating and installing standing seam roofs they usually have good slope and the metal is slicker than a greased weasels Willy when it's wet

Other than a slip and fall fear, walking on a wet roof is not a problem.
I use a collapsable ladder to inspect slides for debris and a long broom to sweep it off.
My wife usually spots me while I’m up high. I figure it’s just do she can wave as I fly by!

this is the blower i keep in my storage compartment…my wife has the weed eater also..GREAT products …i bought a couple of extra batteries. …she loves them

the blower works great for blowing leaves and water off the slides…practically blow drys the top of the slides…we also use to keep the outdoor carpet and steps clean…one battery lasts me the whole week of camping..they make gutter cleaning attachments so you may not even need a ladder
