Guys.... I know it's not the best idea to engage strangers nowadays, but if you saw someone really in danger, like an adult whose phone cell rang and they got deep into a conversation, forgetting their small child for a mo0ment who was wondering toward certain danger, most would act....

We have seen and read too many stories about "Sure your truck will pull it" and we take them for their word.
So, these good folks might be totally ignorant, NOT stupid, to the danger they are skirting.

What we might try is something like this, a little "white lie" but I use it every time my wife ask if this new dress makes her butt look bigger?

Approach someone and say: "Hey, I use have a rig pretty much like yours, but I had troubling handling it, etc, and could not enjoy my trailering. I had to get something more stout, bigger, or whatever....
Then ask him/her how it handles, how they feel about their set up, etc, and how they control their trailering without feeling at risk.
What is your TRICK to handling such a load?
How much does it weigh anyway and how much can your truck hold and pull?
Play the dumb card.
Once you open that can o' worms, you will most likely be able to gauge the person willingness to engage and learn...
Then you can take it from there, hopefully.

I use "technique" when I see someone who might be open to me sharing about alcoholism.

I start out by relating how it made me act, feel, and the consequences.
I never point the finger at them or call them out or judge them.
I try and build a bridge, first...
If they walk across it to me, then I continue on, if not, I just let it go.... it's the best I can do.

I think the problem with trying to lead them to the conclusion that they're overloaded is that they're in the heat of the battle trying to hitch up, pack up and go home. There's NOTHING they can do about the situation then and there, in the event they DO see the light.
The time to engage this conversation is after they're safely home, and get them to see the issues and they then have to want to make things better.
