Back up camera monitor 5" or 7"?

I am thinking about installing a rear view camera system. Those of you who use these share your experience. I'd like to mount on the dash but am concerned about taking up too much of my forward view. 5" or 7" monitor? I don't want to go too small but also not too large. What have you experienced. Thanks!

I can't tell you about size differences because I don't have one. I will say I bought a 7" screen unit (HaloView) and when I put it out on the dash, with the TST TPMS monitor, I felt like I lost too much of my view so sent it back so you may be in the same boat if you use a dash mounted TPMS as I do. But....

After this trip this last week and some little situations I encountered, I'm looking at ordering one again and putting the 7" monitor down on the console looking up at me??

I have the Furrion Vision S system with 7" monitor. Personally I would not go smaller. I also added in the two side view cams to the system, but rarely use them as I found the views in split screen format really make the views too small to be worthwhile....YMMV.

I have the monitor in the center of the dash on my Ford F350 and it does not interfere with driving. Not sure about a Ram, but my Ford has a depression in the center of the dash about 1' square and an inch or so deep that the monitor w/pedestal base sits in nicely.

One annoyance using the monitor up high on the dash is that on bright days, the viewability really decreases. I purchased and affixed a hood like apparatus with side 'blinders' that spans the display, but it's still hard to see. Not sure if other brands have better displays to combat this.

For my LCI TPMS I used an old iPhone 8 connected via BT for the monitor. Easy to read temps and PSI, and still look around it. The VisionWorks system from TechnoRV.com comes with a cup holder mount, in addition to the window suction cup. So it does have options. Thanks.

Markcee,
Thanks for the tip. I was leaning toward the 7". The Visionworks does come with a hood for the monitor. Also good to know about the side cameras.

I've got the Haloview RD10. The "monitor" is a mirror that fits over your in cab rear view mirror. I like it because with my Garmin RV785 GPS already on the dash, I did not want another monitor there.

The RD10 gives you a front dash cam that records. You can do a split screen for the rear view camera and the front dash cam. Or just touch the screen and you can have just one camera of your choice.

I have a RVS wired system with a 7" monitor. I attached "stick on Velcro" to the back of the rear view mirror and the back of the monitor. Now, I use the Velcro to secure the monitor to the rear view mirror. When towing, the rear view mirror is pretty much useless anyway.

I'd have to turn my glasses upside down to focus that closely on a corner of that tiny mirror LOL

Oh yeah that mirror! However, I am getting good at spelling Cougar backwards! That is a good place to put it however. Thanks
