Even if you can "keep rainwater from getting into the storage box" you are still going to have condensation when the dewpoint is low. Every time you're in "climate conditions" that cause the windows to condense interior humidity, you will see the same thing happening to the single thickness steel box that is exposed to the outside climate (like the windows are) and the interior higher humidity caused by the interior air being warmer and holding more moisture.
As for draining water out of the storage box, I've seen some owners drill a half inch hole at the box low point, then after it's drained and dry, use a rubber plug (think automotive access hole plug) to reseal the hole, but still have a drain point for the next time it happens. Granted, this does not solve the water intrusion issue, but it gives you a means to drain the water as it accumulates.
