Reece Goosebox vs Trailer Saver

Looking for informed opinions; 2022 HC 295RL- 34' and less than 12K lbs. Previous 2013 40'/14,500 lb Mountaineer; we used MorRyde and did pretty well. Got to believe these airbag/shock absorbers have to be a much better ride. Goosebox and Trailer Saver are two different systems (both use airbag & shocks) so just looking for best ride plus pros/cons of each. Checked lots of the online rhetoric now getting close and would like forum opinions.

OBTW, running B&W flip over ball and Companion hitch currently with stock hitch=pretty rough.
Thanks for any help.
Jack

Hmmm, I’m not seeing a new Gen 3 on Reeseprod.com
What is new?

We are running a 20K Goosebox and very happy with it.
There is also a 16K Goosebox that may be more appropriate for you.
May also look at a GEN Y pinbox.

Changing to fit the new Rhino frame is a good thing I suppose.
They didn’t do anyone any favors relocating the Shraeder. It’s a PITA now and they made it worse. “Hopping” up into the bed while hitched up to adjust air is a lot easier said than done.
Obviously knowing what your optimum air pressure is before you hook up is best. Mine was 38psi, or was it 48? I wrote it on the decal with a Magic Marker, it washed off.

gearhead, thanks for info. Do you happen to have any first hand info on Gen Y; it looks very attractive and simple.
Thanks again.

I think it looks good too. I almost went with it but my independent RV shop said no, it’s too new. Same thing a Heartland dealer told me. So I let myself get talked out of it.
I don’t know anyone that has one.

I installed a 16k Goosebox on my 2021 Keystone Avalanche and have towed it a little over 8k miles so far. The cushy ride is reason enough to buy it! I installed a pressure gage to the schrader valve block so that I can more easily monitor my air bag pressure as well as painting the Goosebox inspection bar silver so that it can be seen a little easier. Hooking up to the tow vehicle is pretty easy with a little practice. In short, I'm a big fan of the Reese Goosebox.

Tell me more about how you did the pressure gauge. Please.
How did you get into the “bullseye” to paint the bar?

To Gearhead, I watched a Youtube video on the air gage installation and it only took about an hour. I like to pull with 42 psi in my goosebox. In order to get to the bar to paint it, all you need to do is air the Goosebox until the bar is accessible through the peep hole - seems like it's about an inch and a half diameter. I carry a small 12 volt air compressor for those times I need to add air - normally due to temperature or elevation changes.

I installed a Reese Goosebox on my 3650RL Alpine and really like it. Mine has the air valve facing the driver side which I like as well. I use a 12" long air chuck that I can add air by standing on the ground next to the truck. I would stay clear of the new and improved version of the goosebox because of the placement of the air valve vertically in the center front of the neck. As has been said, "hopping" into the bed of a truck in my case would be more like "getting a stool and climbing over the side". NOPE! My goosebox has an air pressure limiting valve and I run the max psi that the valve will allow. I think it makes for a better ride with less chucking. I checked into a Hensely TSLB which is a good system but it also raises the ball 5 inches and I do not want to raise my RV 5 more inches so I went with a standard B&W flipover ball that the truck came with and went with the Goosebox. Works well for me.

I believe my peep hole has a clear cover. Do you pry that off? DISREGARD. I just checked and stuck my finger in the hole.
I’ll look for the video.
I carry a DeWalt 20volt air compressor. Small, light, and will air my tires to 125psi.

I found a new 16K 2nd gen goosebox and really like it. After looking at the posts again I'm going to experiment with more psi and match psi to inspection bar; also, paint when I get home. Two more weeks finishing our 2 month midwest/Arkansas tour. Headed for Lake Texoma Monday for 8 days.

The Goose box is nothing more than a gussied-up goose neck adapter and still stresses the frame. Goose Box is owned by Reese which is owned by Lippert, so naturally they will endorse the product.

We towed a 19,000 LB 5er for close to 10 years with a Trailer Saver TS3 and a Demco Glide Ride pin box. The trailer had three MORryde IS axles. This combination was performed very well all over the USA and we saw some pretty bad roads. The truck and trailer did well and I attribute this to two things...the TS3 hitch and the MORryde IS.

As a retired mechanical engineer, I would not waste my money on a Goose Box or the Andersen hitch.

Ken

As a construction trailer owner/tower (mostly goosenecks) for previous 24 years & 5th wheel with gooseneck since 2013 towing well over 50K miles mostly for work: I like my goosebox. All just opinions.
