Leaky black water valve?

Have a 2018 cougar 25res and I have a problem. With the black and gray water valves are pushed in all the way and when I take the cap off to drain at the dump station black wast water comes flowing out . Not solid waste but the waste water . Any idea what would be causing this to happen and what to do to fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely toilet paper caught in the gasket. Happens from time to time, sometimes you can flush it out, sometimes not and you have to pull the valve and clean it or replace it.

Or like many of us, you can get a cap with a garden hose connection and open that first while holding your sewer hose under it until it drains the gallon or so.

Or get another valve for the end of the pipe.

Both work and cost a lot less than replacing the valve every time it leaks

I think the cause of the leak is that a piece of debris/toilet paper got trapped in the black tank valve and is preventing the valve from completely closing…leaving a sliver of the valve open. The real fix solution is to remove the black tank valve and clean it so that it closes correctly or replace it with a new valve. I would have to remove the coroplast bottom on my RV to be able to get to the valve to fix it.

Instead - I pushed the easy button and bought a new valve to put on the end of the black tank sewer connection like the one in the pic below. This new valve allows me to hook up my hose in the campground before I open the valve to let the seepage out into the hose and not onto me! I think the valve I bought was a Valterra but I could not find a pic. This camco valve is similar.

Edit: I did try to blast/flush out the debris/toilet paper that was caught in my valve but all efforts were unsuccessful. That is when I bought the extra valve. I am way too lazy to take down the coroplast bottom enclosure on my rig.

Use one of these caps then remove to small cap while holding the sewer hose under it before removing the big cap.

That’s what I do as well. As you can see, this is a common problem that pretty much every RV has. Even if you cleaned out the valve and got it to work, it’s just a matter of time before it leaks past it again. Better to just use the work around so you’re ready for it when it happens.
