The hotels we've stayed at in Europe over the years have almost all had bidets. DW and I both maintain that if a new stick and brick is ever built it will have a bidet. Being 'old Corps' like I am, the garage will also have a urinal. Don't knock the bidet idea until you've at least given it a try.

I still haven't gotten over the fact that you have dealt with "thousands" of black tank issues in nine years. OK, since you made thousand plural, lets say 2000 as the minimum. Are you the shop SME on... well poop? Wasn't there a TV show about dirty jobs? Seems thousands of black tank operations would qualify! OUCH!

And I am not sure how the bidet subject came up; not familiar with how this works but aside from 33 degree water on that cold winter morning, do you just sit there and hope some of it is contained between butt seal and toilet seat? Where's the mop honey???

The Angel Soft broke up and the Northern did not.

So currently our list of eligible products includes:

Kirkland,
Angel Soft,
and anything specifically labeled for RV.

Wondering what you use that has passed the break apart test?
We have been using Angel Soft for years with no problems.

If you do the shaking a piece of your TP in a jar of water test and it breaks down into tiny pieces, you don't need a digester.

Now, fast forward a bit and, as I've posted on these forums and other places, we don't use toilet paper at all any more.

WHAT YOU SAY!!!!

Yes sir!

None.

We purchased Bidets for all our toilets, including the trailer, and we simply do not use TP any more. Problem solved for your RV black tank!

Yes, I'm blowing my trumpet here attempting to grab anyone's attention I can. It takes a little bit to get use to using one, and I thought I'd never like it either. My wife insisted, so she ordered it, I installed it, and WOW! OK, once you get past the "WOW" they are really great!

So, rather than fussing around with TP, clogging up sewer lines, pumping out septic tanks, and trying to get those toilet paper wads out of your black water tank, Bidets solve all that!

Plus, they are cleaner, more sanitary, and pay for the price of the toilet paper very fast. After that, every time you "go", it's money saved.

Ours in the Fifth Wheel: Purchased through Amazon, $29.99. I did end up cutting the PEX water line and put in a T to connect the Bidet. So, maybe, another $10.00 in parts.

Well, all I can say is to each their own! At this age, never having 32 degree water shot up, well....there, I figure I would go straight into shock and never have to worry about this novel virus. Guess I'm not too "Cosmopolitan" - lived in the country all my life. Plus, I've never had a black tank or septic issue - just try to "take care of business".

Still cannot fathom never touching a towel or TP and just squirting yourself then heading off to "somewhere". If you did have to use the other items, which I would consider essential, don't know that I would be saving anything. But, if you're happy, I'm happy!

Edit: Sorry Jim! Didn't see your prior post. I will defer to your experience with a bidet but not thinking this "crusty" old guy will change his ways!!

I’ve always been intrigued by the bidet idea... I’ve yet to try one, but admittedly I have my doubts about the effectiveness of simple stream of water against some of the “residue” I’ve had to “work with”. But they must work if people still use them, right?

I can say that 2 ply is better than 1ply TP.
Its easier for 2 ply to break down since 2 ply sheets are thinner and not as strong as 1 ply.

RV TP is overpriced and doesn't break down as quick, like you'd expect.
Another very important factor in TP and good RV black tank operation and preventive maintenance is plenty of water. Even it you have to stand on the foot peddke to get that level up to at lease 3/4 full. The liquid, the force of dumping by fuller tank cant be emphasized enough.

Found it rather odd that with the hoarding going on that the RV TP section of my local Walmart was full and it looked like a couple of those packages had been there for a while...

I went and checked that section one day last week in curiosity with all the hoarding. Ours was “wiped out”.

I was down to 6 rolls couldn’t find TP. Got up this morning at 5 am meeting at Walmart for senior paper products every Tuesday for 1 hour. Amusing following the arrows with good security through and around aisle to pallets full of paper products. The camper is stocked. I’ll give a thumbs up to Walmart.

Keep plenty of water in your black tank. Liquid helps to break down paper and keeps solids from becoming SOLID. When you dump a black tank 3/4 or Full will empty and clean out way more than 1/2 or less. Start the camp with about 1/4 full of water when you pull in, that way as you conserve your water during a dry camp you don't have to worry about having liquid in the tank. Then when you are ready to go and move on to another place and will pass potable drinking water to fill up, you can flush away and fill that black tank more so you can have a good complete dump! pun!
