Set up WDH on new truck

Hello,

I spent some time on Sunday setting up the WDH on the new TV. I have an Equalizer e2 800lb hitch.

What I found interesting is the front measurement (center of wheel, pavement to top of wheel well) on the TV was:

uncoupled: 40 1/2"
coupled: 40 3/4"
WDH: 40 1/2"

I had to set the L brackets as low as possible and obviously it did not take much to even it out. I wish I could find the measurements from the 1/2 ton truck but I think it was a greater difference but the stiffer frame I think makes a difference.

Yes, the TT was loaded with full propane tanks, battery. The only things missing were clothes, food, and booze. Oh, maybe the amount of booze would make a difference!

No real point just an observation. Can't wait to tow with it on 4/22 when it goes to dealer for front cap gelcoat repair. Had previous post where a tree crew working in my yard, their truck slid sideways and bumped TT.

I never took measurements with this rv in inch's. It looks like no change with or without the trailer or WD bars(front axle). I drove it the way the dealer set it up. And the truck steers and brakes as without the trailer at low speeds. Takes longer to stop at freeway speeds. I scaled the combo and found the front axle was 300 lighter while towing. I pulled one more link up and found it was 200 lbs lighter. Maybe on a 1/2 ton there would be different handling with the lighter front axle but, I do not have any. I than talked with the service manager and he said with that truck and trailer 200-300 lbs is no big deal. I may be able to move the hitch angle and do better but, why. Another reason having enough truck helps. In my case the tow vehicle weight is more than the trailer and nearly as long.

The angle is at the max recommended in manual - 6 washers. Probably don't need the wdh but it does serve as a anti-sway also.

When I went from a 150 to a 350 the front of the truck moved a half inch. I adjusted the L brackets so the bars were level and tuned in pretty good. Also works and travels great. Enjoy the new truck.

I leveled the trailer the. Took a measurement. Measured the hitch before hooking up the trailer. After hooking everything up, including weight distribution, I was only 1/2" low. Since the hitch has 1" increments on adjustment, I am happy with being 1/2" low. BUT, after towing it to Florida and back, I do see a need to tilt the ball back a little, I can see where the trailer tongue came in contact with the hitch, probably during extremely sharp turns.
