Tire Question

If you read your keystone owner's manual, you will find that it's not recommended to use tires smaller than the OE tire designated size.

Sorry, the 352 comes with G rated Sailuns. My thought was to start at 90 to avoid a harsh ride if the additional 20# were not necessary. I need to get it weighed so I know specifically what I am pulling and that I have the weight distribution in the trailer correct. I don't have much faith in tire placards. According to RAM my 3500 DRW should be at 65#. Not so, on that I run, when loaded 80#. Thanks for the help.

Auto/truck tires are not the same tire as trailer tires. The tire placard on your trailer tells you what you HAVE to have to carry that trailer. Your car gives you a pressure for "normal" driving and you can air up the max on the sidewall depending on the load carried.

I had previously asked what size the tires are. There are 2 Sailun LRGs that might be on there - an 80 or 85 series. The 85 series gives a little more load capacity. I wouldn't run either at less than 110psi with a 17k load. As far as trying to smooth the ride, if you have a decent suspension 90 vs 110psi won't make a difference. If you have a bad suspension it won't matter either.

Who's riding in the rv to complain of a harsh ride?
I doubt you in the truck cab would ever notice the ride difference of 10-20lbs, but the tires might due to being under inflated.
The manufacturer put those heavy tires on for a reason, to carry a heavy load!!! Use their advice & air them up to the "required" 110lbs & quite trying to build it back better! (pun intended)

Vehicle manufacturers are the only ones with the authority to set cold inflation pressures for OE designated sized tires.

The pick-up truck manufacturer has the option to provide a placard for normal load inflation pressures and their description of what that truck’s normal load consists of. Without that supplemental placard the correct cold inflation pressures are found in the vehicle owner’s manual, vehicle certification label and on the tire and load information placard.

Montana has been using Sailun as oem for about 2 years

Just swapped my oem for Sailun tires. ST235/80R16. They are 14 ply, So far love them. $600 for 4 of them at Big O.

I wouldn’t put blame the tire in this situation. I would even be surprised if lasted as long as it did with the wear it with stood.

Severe Toe Out - Bent axle from impact is most likely. Need to get this fixed ASAP. Get a Goodyear Tire and Air it to max. My Endurance tires look great after two years. Inspect your tires much more frequently, rotate, and air up. Might move up at least one Load Rating. Perhaps you or someone impacted a curb, rock or road alligator.

Those numbers are based on the factory installed tires. Going to a higher performance/different brand can/will change cold inflation numbers.

My Charger originally had tires that maxed at 32 cold fill. My Pirelli's on it now use 50 as the max cold fill. Tire sidewall tells you what you need to know once you change out the original tires.

BTW. Lots of tire installers inflate to the factory spec on the printout for the vehicle, so pay attention to the pressure if they install and make sure it's where the sidewall says it should be. My car handled like crap until I checked the pressure and found it to be 18lbs low.. LOL.

The Spindle is likely bent, a Trailer Repair Location can do an alignment check and tell you. Hope you don't need a new axle, but I think you will. If there is one, there could be two damaged axles.

actuay it works out to 1.3" for total diamiter, so the trailer will sit almost 3/4" lower which may be bad or may not. there are different sizes of sailuns also he could explore.

We had a '15 371 Fuzion that came with 235x85x16 Sailun 637's...when I saw Made In China thought they were junk tires. Wrong! Still on the Fuzion when I traded it in. G rated 14 ply and heavy sidewalls...ran 105 to 110 max.

Don't know how I made it driving on those old tube type nylon tires in the '60's. I ran some Casler cheater slicks on the '66 GTO I had. 8.50x14 and were re-caps. Never came apart on the highway or track at speeds of over 100mph. When the 2 small groves in the tread wore down I did spin out in the rain. Drove home about 60 miles away and put a set of Prowler Eliminator tires front and rear. Later got a set of M&H ripplewalls for track use only!! Probably in the 70's when I got my first set of radials.

Maybe you're misunderstanding what is smaller or larger. The designated size of the ST255/85R16 is smaller than the designated size ST235/85R16. The industry standard for replacement tires states that replacement tires cannot be smaller than the OE tires, and the replacement tires must provide a load capacity equal to or greater than what the OE tires provided at the recommended cold inflation PSI.

Because there is more than one manufacturer building the ST255/85R16 there isn't much justification to ask for another size.
