Gen Y versus Goosebox Hitch

I am looking for actually experience using either of these hitches. We just bought a 2014 Keystone 269fwrls Copper Canyon and want to change to using my Gooseball hitch that I have in the truck. I am considering both of these hitches and am looking for what people like or dislike about each one to help make my decision. Gen Y tends to be several hundred dollars cheaper so that’s a plus. Before anyone starts lecturing about Lipperts warranty, don’t have one, don’t care, only looking for thoughts from people have experience using these.

I doubt anyone was going to "lecture" you about Lippert's warranty. Point it out as they should - yes.

I’ve only seen it installed on one unit in my years of working on trailers, the customer said he liked it. It was on a very large heartland unit.

I had a MorRyde with the rubber block on the Heartland Oshkosh. It was terrible. Slammed at every stop. Embarrassing. Decided to go with either Goosebox or Gen Y. I was very close to pulling the trigger on Gen Y. I am right on top of the Goosebox max pin weight of 4000#. I talked to the Landmark dealer in Navasota Texas and he highly recommended the Goosebox. He said don't worry about being being over the 4000. So I went Goosebox. I really like it even though I may sometimes be over max. Experiment with the air pressure. I'm pulling 17,500 with 4000+\- pin. Best ride I've had with a 5th. It's sometimes a challenge to get right over the truck ball to hitch, but it's worth it. I don't care about the warranty, I'm sure I'm out of date anyway.
But.....I wish I had gone Gen Y for the pin weight.

I have the Reese Goosebox 20k and love it. No hitch having to go in and out of my bed, hiking up is easy, it rides like a dream. Can’t imagine ever going back.

I don’t know much about the Gen Y. I didn’t consider it.

I went with the goosebox but it is adjustable, and sets the trailer back about 1 inch further than the Gen-Y. I had the 1621 pin box and the goosebox is 1 inch longer. I have a short bed with the factory prep package so no offset ball available. Plus when the torsion rubber on the Gen-Y wears out I am not sure that replacement parts will be available. If you don't like the torsion rating for the Gen-y you are SOL. The goosebox you add or remove air. These are just why I went with the Reese version and so far I am very happy with it.

You will have trouble finding information on the Gen Y, it hasn’t been around that long and word is just getting out on it. I’m considering both as well and all I can say is I really like the look of the Gen Y and the reviews I can find on it are all very good. So far I have not seen anything negative concerning this hitch. The one thing I really like about it is the claims for increased fuel mileage. My first thought was bull…..how can a hitch make a difference of up to 2 MPGs, however, pretty much all of the reviews from owners support that claim. With fuel prices right now, that is very attractive. I have not seen those same claims on the Goosebox.

I went Goosebox before we pulled the trailer for the first time so I can't compare it to anything else. With that said, I love the system. It's awesome not having anything in the bed of my truck and it is an exceptionally smooth and quiet ride. The only thing I don't care for is having to climb in/out of the bed of the truck to air up/down (I can reach everything else from outside the truck). A remoted air line closer to the pin box would have been a really nice option. I went with the 16k.

How do you figure out which frame you have on a fifth wheel to order the correct hitch?

Should be a label on the side of the frame up near the pin box.

We had to contact Lippert and gave them the number on that sticker. Perhaps it is obvious to somebody but I couldn't tell what it was.

I couldn’t decipher it either. Sorry about the upside down picture, I don’t know how to rotate it. I will send an email to Lippert and see if they respond

Same here I really like the hitch.
Maybe check with whoever you are buying the hitch from to determine fitment?

I built my own hitch to convert it to a gooseneck. The question I have because I have never seen chains on the add on conversion hitches is, are chains needed/required? I added them when I built mine because that is what I had read when doing my research.

Gearhead do you get any chucking with the goose box?

I want to swap my 5 th wheel to goose box mainly to stop the rough ride and chucking I get but have been told the goose box has chucking also so scared to spend the money to not cure the chucking issue.

My old 48 ft race trailer was gooseneck and combined weight was 31k and I had zero chucking … towed like a dream and sometimes would forget it was behind me unless I looked in the mirror.

When my wife is sitting passenger seat with her lap top working when my trailer now starts chucking it’s like she’s trying to hang on to a bull that’s trying to throw her off till it settles down….. I hate that chucking

Check with your state motor vehicle dept. chains are required in Ca. For any trailer using a “ball”, traditional fifth wheels don’t.

Been GenY user for 4yrs now. Have the Executive. Best hitch ever. Seven others within an hour’s drive of me swapped over as well and don’t seem to intend on changing.

I also have the GenY bumper hitch as do several others around here. We all seem to find them exceptional.
