Suggestions on how to keep water from splashing out of toilet while traveling down bumpy roads...

I generally travel with just enough water to cover the seal, maybe half an inch over.

I drain my bowl. The seal isn’t going to dry out in one days travel.

Push the pedal to flush, then simply take your foot off. Don't add any more water. More is not needed. A small amount of water will finish flowing from the bowl rim and cover the seal on the bottom of the bowl. That is all you need to keep the seal wet.

Another way is to turn the water pump off before flushing. No water will be added at all this way.

I have a rear bath and don’t recall ever having water slosh out of the bowl in 25,000 miles of travel. As others have said, just a little water on the seal is all that is needed.

I have to ask though, are you sure water is sloshing out of the bowl? I had a floor flange issue that allowed water to literally slosh out of the tank and get the floor around the base of the toilet wet which led to me replacing the bathroom floor at 2 years old.

Like others I have to say I've never had water slosh out of my toilet and I run the rimless 310s. I also put just enough water in to cover the seal and close the lid.

We always travel with the water pump turned off. A long, long time ago, we had some cargo shift while towing and rupture a cold water line (back when they were 3/8" copper flex tubing) and with the water pump on, we filled the trailer with every last drop of fresh water that was in the tank. We discovered it when we got to our destination, opened the door and water came "rolling out the door"... So, now we always turn the water pump off when towing AND when we leave the trailer/campsite....

The "simple solution to splashing water in the toilet bowl while towing" is just to step on the flush pedal after turning off the water pump. That will empty the bowl and without pressure, the cavity in the bowl won't refill, so the bowl stays empty until you turn the pump back on or connnect to city water.

I've owned several boats and several campers with toilets.never has any that sloshed out toilet bowl water. Full disclosure:There's only enough water in the bowl to cover seal and I don't go slalom racing or drifting.

WOW! When I first saw this post, I'm wondering what can this forum possibly be talking about how toilet water and RV's could be related. Then I read the posts. But this is what came to mind at first: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/toilet_water

My friend, I declare you officially "OLD".
I'm also old. But, the only person I ever remember using the term Toilet Water to describe their perfume was my grandmother.
I remember laughing when she told my sister to "just put a dab behind each ear" I think I was about 8 at the time.

I upgraded from the rimless Dometic 310 to the Dometic 320 elongated that has a nice full rim... No water splashed out anymore... :-)

Hi,

There was a thread on this very subject many years ago that I contributed to as I have the same problem in the TT in my signature. As stated, the 310 toilet does not have a rim. Even when stepping on the pedal and emptying the bowl, there is enough water in the rim that will slosh out into the bowl. As soon as I start moving the water will slosh out onto the floor.

My solution is: I empty the bowl, pull TT to the end of the driveway, stop and go back inside to find the bowl full again and reflush. I also apply Suran wrap over the top of the bowl.

On the 310s I'm curious if those having water "splash" out of it when using it are using a water pressure regulator? I've used 310s for many years changing out brand new toilets (Thetfords) to put them in (DW prefers them). The only time water ever splashed out of the toilet was when I foolishly thought I could leave off the regulator for "just one night". First use of the toilet and yep, water shot around that rim, flew over the edge and right out on the floor. Went out straight away and read the pressure, just less than 100 psi! Put the regulator on and have never seen water come out of it again while using it or towing it.

Besides using a water pressure regulator (that should be SOP) why not just flush the toilet after disconnecting the city water or turning off the pump? That would relieve the pressure and drain the bowl.

Flybouy....please re-read my post. this was with no water hooked up and pump off. The problem is the water that is in the rim cavity that sloshed out into the bowl, then sloshed into the floor while in transit.

If it's a design flaw I'd think there would be a lot more folks complaining about it. If I had a toilet that did that and it wasn't preventable it would only happen once. I'd replace it before I'd keep a roll of plastic wrap for wrapping the toilet before moving.

Flybouy. From my reading its only a problem with RVs that have the bathroom in the rear of the structure,.... which is the bounciest location. I have often thought of replacing with a 320 which has a rim.

Makes sense. I would replace it before gift wrapping it before a trip. That's got to get old quick.
