Manual slide operation

Hello. We have a 2021 couger 316rls 5th wheel. How do you manually operate the slides in the event of no power?
Thanks.

Depends on which type of slide mechanism you have. Some RVs have more than one type on different slides. Cable slides are different from rack and pinion and different from Schwintek. Post a pic of your slides from the outside so we can see which system/systems you have.

The kitchen is cable. The bedroom is schwintek and living room is rack and pinion.

Rack and pinion should have a rod with a hex end on the opposite side of the RV down under the skirting (or a hole in the skirting) for installing a crank. The cable slides have a removable panel inside at the top of the slide to crank with a drill. Many come with a tool to install in the drill, is about a 6” long shaft with a spring around it. The Schwintek….good luck. The only way I know of, and I’ve seen it work, disengage the motors at the top on both sides of the slide and pushing in by hand. Actually, but about 8-10 hands because that’s how many people it takes.

Cable: you have to use a flexible shaft with a drill. The end is squarehead and is inserted on the end of the motor. You may have to remove the top facia to access it.

Schwintek: you need to locate the controller. It will have printed instructions telling you to press the rubber button 6 times and hold on the 7th. This puts the controller “override” and you can use the buttons. If all else fails, you have to release the screws holding the motors in place ( on exterior) lift motor and push room.

Rack and pinion: locate the override shaft on the opposite side of the slide, or remove some coroplast and locate the motor. Use a wrench or socket with ratchet to move the room.

We have a rack and pinion and at the opposite side of the camper behind the motor is a nut. We have no hole in our trailer's side and the nut is close to the frame. It must be cranked with a ratchet. Mine uses a 25mm socket but it is likely that is really and SAE sized nut. You will note that the slide, especially if it is a long one, sags very slightly when fully extended. I had to jack my slide about an inch or so to be able to crank it in when my slide motor died last week. (have a new slide motor now and all is good). Some campers have holes in the side adjacent to the nut at the slide motor end for inserting a crank which might be easier than laying on your back under the camper and cranking with a ratchet. Each turn moves the slide about 3/8". It took me a couple hours to get my slide in from extended.

There are differences between E and W and who knows what else. The 2020 315s I was looking at on the E coast had schwintek bedroom, and the big slides had ram on one side and cable on the other. The same 315s in the W had all cable slides as I recall.
