My Shell refinery, Deer Park/Houston, was configured for diesel and pushed a lot of it out. The Mexican president is under a lot of pressure to get fuel to Mexico.
If the US economy ramps up so will demand.
I read the reason for the diesel increases and shortage is because world wide shipping regulations now require all ships to use the low Sulphur diesel. Which has increased demand beyond refinery capabilities

If a diesel shortage becomes sitting in long lines like back in the 70's, l will definitely think about passing on the trip. I had two 5 gallon cans filled for one of those just in case times and ended up adding them when i got home. Definately need a fuel transfer pump at my age and lifting full fuel cans.

This topic can easily veer off course into prohibited areas of conversation - like politics. Let's keep it on the straight and narrow and away from prohibited subjects.

I have a friend that high diesel prices is driving him home, he is 86, me I’m 77 so the wife says. Anyway I may not have much time left so as long as I can get diesel I’m going. I figure at least 5,000 miles and my GMC dually get 10mpg, so 500 gallons of diesel, my diesel budget now is $3,000 bucks. I love Yellowstone, have been a few times and I never get tired of seeing Yellowstone. I hope to go to Alaska next year, I just have to talk DW into getting the vaccine. I went to Alaska in 2017 and one fuel stop the diesel was $1.99 a liter, I didn’t even slow down pumping. The bad roads in Alaska had messed up my auxiliary tank, that’s fixed now. Nothing I can do about the high cost of diesel
We’re going to Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Cheyenne Frontier Days in July. It’ll only be about 3000 miles for us (that includes some sight seeing miles). My dmax gets 11-12 MPGs towing I always just figure on 11 so 275 gallons. I budgeted $1500 for fuel. One thing we’ve decided to do is pull the Harley behind. It doesn’t change my MPGs, but will save us a lot on sight seeing fuel costs. Some beautiful roads to ride up in that area anyway. We may end up seeing a lot more country than we would have if we just took the truck and 5er.

It's the administration's idea, forcing the green new deal. Seldom spoken of these days, but the plan is to force it since most people and industry rely on diesel for bring the essentials to your door. If you want diesel, they will make you pay all while profiting.

Was a good thread until it went political. Especially expecting a nice beautiful rose garden right after Covid and then Russia invading Ukeraine.

Come on gang, please keep politics out of a thread that can be informative to people traveling. If it continues we will close it. Thanks in advance, Hank

I believe that this current fuel price crisis will pass at some point and we should move on to talking important stuff like the location of clothing optional campgrounds! The blame game is tedious at best and while the politicians attempt to deflect guilt for their foolishness, we might as well just wait until the elections come around and let them know what we think of all their actions. Remember two years ago what fuel prices were?

Looks like the price of diesel may have moderated a bit. I topped off at a Shell station in Beaumont TX for $4.99 today. I was seeing $5.20-$5.35 a few days ago. Nothing scientific just casual observation.
So, I took some backroads in Louisiana looking around burning some cheap diesel.

Missouri is always cheaper than Iowa. Top off before you hit the line!

George where ARE those clothing optional campgrounds?? I didn't know there were any within my state of TX. Told DW I was ready to head out to them so I could enjoy something like that...something I've never seen. Well she pointed out the reality; whatever I thought I would see...I wouldn't; I'm blind as a bat. If I wanted to join in the "clothing optional" beach or whatever, it would vacate immediately....and I would get severe sunburn. Guess I'm just going stick with my standbys and throw some food on the grill/smoker!!
