Now you're getting political!

I know of one place in my little world back in TX that sells the E15....no one buys it. I doubt the rest of them will contaminate their tanks with the "corn liquor" and hope that goes for everywhere else.

Edit: Whoops! Thanks John, that would be E85 not "E15" whatever that might be.

E-10 or E-15.... What about E-85 ???? Yep, that's 85% corn licker and 15% gas and additives... When we had our F150 with the 5.4L "dual fuel engine" I tried it "ONE TIME" got about 12MPG on the highway where we were getting almost 20MPG on regular unleaded... Really seemed to be "no way to waste money"...

Nearly the same price as regular (E-10) but about 75% as much energy per gallon. That was my last tank of E-85 and I haven't seen any E-15 in this area...

Here's an old photo, I couldn't find any current shots, but would reassure you, the prices today are significantly more than the photo....

And now we've stooped so low as to start "Burning Our Food" for fuel....
Pretty sad commentary.

I don’t know what year your F-150 was, but our 2012 Escape could use E-85. When gas prices were so high last time ?2013? ?2014? we tried it out since it was a decent amount cheaper. We did learn, from reading the book and trial and error, that it took a couple of tanks of E-85 before the computer reprogrammed itself, and then we did get *almost* as good of gas mileage with it as with regular 87 octane fuel. DH did the math, and we only saved a couple of cents per gallon, so really wasn’t worth it to me when the price of the E-85 rose also.

Personally, for any engine I care about (my mustang, snowmobile, etc) I won’t/ can’t use any of the “E’s”, which for us is non-oxy 91. Thank goodness the gas station 3 miles away has it. And has red dye diesel for our tractor.

Lynette,

It was a 2010 F150 with the 5.4L engine. 2011 Ford introduced the EcoBoost 3.5l and discontinued the 5.4L replacing it with the 5.0L "high rev engine".

I only tried that one tank and gave up the test and went back to 87 regular. If I remember the owner's manual, it did say that over several tanks, the performance would improve and there was a warning to not "intermix tanks of fuel" but to stay with one specific type at least for several tanks...

I wasn't impressed, but may not have given it enough time to "work Ford's magic" ......

I didn't post to be political.....sad that it seems most things have been made to be a Hatfield or McCoy thing

I was hoping to glen input from what shall we do with the fuel situation.

When towing I put premium in my 6.2 gasser, some say that's a waste, I really don't know, but it seems I use less pedal to pull.

It runs fine on corn syrup, otherwise, no knock, or ping, well, other than my wallet

My truck is listed as flex fuel....whatever that is, I have never seen it.

The fuel situation hasn't changed. There is talk from DC that they will relax the production limitations for 15% ethanol but that hasn't happened. As I mentioned in response to your original post I haven't seen enough E85 pumps traveling around to mount to a hill of beans and DC didn't say he was going to outlaw all the other fuels so I plan to keep on keeping on.

Premium in a gas engine; my 6.4 has 89 recommended. I run that and 87 depending on what is at the pump when not towing. Loaded I run 89 and preferably 91. The 6.4 does show slight improvement using 91 vs 89. At 93 I find no difference over 91. I have no idea what the 6.6 likes.

Well, the nice thing about having a diesel powered vehicle is, if there is ever a diesel shortage, diesels also run on vegetable oil. (really). And the exhaust smells like french fries.

And yet another reason not to buy a diesel. I can see it now; want to make a 300 mile camping trip for a few days but it takes me 5 days to get that far because I stop at every fast food joint along the way for fries. I love french fries....

E15 is usually not labeled as such. If the pump has E 87 and a button for 88 octane, the 88 is E15.

Could you elaborate on that please?

With the corn additive does it retard/weaken the combustion?

Also, my understanding is the biggest "harm" that is associated with it is that if the car/truck/motor sets for any length of time unused, is when it has the propensity to clog up the fuel system with residue, etc.

So if we run it daily, then that risk is greatly reduced?

A station about 10 miles from me installed what I call a "soft drink fountian for gasoline" with lots of flavors. The darn thing has more buttons than a slot machine. Thankfully they also put in seperate diesel pumps away from "slots floor".

I would like to know how many storage tanks they have in the ground for all those options!! Do they have a separate hose for each one?

Diesel power all the way. If they run out of it and I can't tow it wont much matter anyway because if the truckers arent moving things nothing is gonna run

I deliver fuel for my retirement job; just something to keep me busy.

Stations have to have a different tank for most different fuels. The exception is for 89 octane. Most stations will just blend 87 and 92 to get the fuel to 89. However, there are some stations that will have a tank for 89 but they tend to sell it as their premium and it has to be marked as 89. Then they don't have a tank for 92.

I have never seen a refinery that puts out a 15 ethanol. I have only seen non ethanol, some just call it clear, and E-10. Not saying they don't make E-15; but the four refineries I've picked up from don't offer it. At least up here in Western WA.

They have to have a separate tanks for each flavot. One hose for all the gasoline options. The button you push dictates the fuel dispensed. I would suspect it works that way where you get gasoline and choose between regular, mid gade or premium. Diese of course requires a dedicated as does DEF if it's dispensed in bulk at the pump.

I don’t see many stations going through the expense of reconfiguring their dispensers and adding new underground storage tanks just to add 5% more ethanol. No, they will just slap a sticker on the pump that says “May contain up to 15% ethanol” and not adjust the price. But you will feel all warm and fuzzy inside for doing your part and who can put a price on that?

I will just keep going to the local Sunoco station that carries 87, and 89 plus non-ethanol 94 and 104 octane fuels

The station I was refrencing is a Royal Farms (regional chain) that went thru a total rebuild. They will shut down a location and basically rebuild it from the ground up. There's one about 5 miles from there that moved from their original corner to another corner across the street that was a larger lot.

That outfit goes to great expense when they rebuild an existing site. I haven't seen them anything less than a " knock it down and build it all new again" approach.it seems very alien to me. Working in retail & resturant development the "keep it open during remodels" was law.
