Retrofitting overmount flip down steps with undermount

Hello!

I'm shopping for a new Keystone trailer and notice a lot of them have the flip over aluminum steps that are screwed into the top of the floor. My RV storage does not have enough room to flip them up and into place, but there's plenty of room for a slide out undermount.

Has anyone had experience with retrofitting the flip up ones with the undermount sliding ones? Are the floors constructed to include reinforcement necessary to refit to an undermount? I'm a pretty big dude and worried it might not hold up to my weight over time.

I am looking at the Bullet, Hideout and/or Passport in the 22-25' range and hoping their construction is still as solid as my older Outback.

You could probably remove the fixed hinged ones and replace with the quick connect removable ones..store them in basement while in a rv storage lot….sell the original one … They are for tight spaces https://www.morryde.com/products/qui...ep-stp54-012h/

I did the opposite and removed the fold-out steps and installed the tip-in steps. My new steps (MorRyde) have removable hinge pins so if space is tight in storage I can just lift them out and set them in place instead of pivoting them down if I want, but it hasn’t been an issue yet. Otherwise, we LOVE the steps so much more than the under-mount ones, and installed a locking storage box where the old steps were located.

Atermarket sells flip down stairs that tuck in. You measure the width (most sellers tell you how to measure specifically) and decide how many steps you want. I have done this and it isn't a big deal.

I have the 2 step version that Jasin1 posted, but the set that disconnects from the camper when in storage (rather than flipping up and storing in the doorway). I was able to leave the oem stairs in place. We have had ours for about a year and a dozen trips. Absolutely no complaints. Purchased them through Amazon. Very pleased with our purchase

Assuming you are shopping for new, many campers include the newer version of the steps with the removeable hinge pins and quick release buttons on the legs.

There is also this option that can replace your steps. We have the ones that mount underneath, but these are the same, just mount like the inside stored steps. They are very well made in the USA, and can be used fully extended or less and have a heavy weight rating. https://www.torklift.com/rv/glowstep...ution-uprising

Bob, OP hasn't logged on since 4/10. Perhaps monitoring answers without logging on but likely a waste of time.
