Flat road. He was towing about 10-12 under the speed limit which is fine but on a two lane road if people speed match then you are relegated to a constant slowing and readjusting of speed as people try an overtake the caravan. A bunch of people just settle behind the much slower vehicle and then it’s not safe to pass as you would need to really accelerate to pass 10 cars.

I have auto cruise control that uses radar to see the vehicle ahead and keep a preset distance. When I use it it gets thrown off and applies the brakes because people jump in front trying to jockey their way up the parade route.

I’ve had so many people pass me then immediately slow down and I’m forced to slow down or turn cruise off

As a note the cruise control has a camera that sees if you take your eyes off the road or if you tilt your head down it will sound an alarm and brake slowly. If a person had to drive at 10-15 under on a two lane road it would be nice if they would swing off in a rest stop every now and again to let other vehicles go through. I’m not talking about speeding or being unsafe. I saw a vw campervan going 50 miles an hour up from florida on a 70 mph hwy

One thing I observed multiple times on this trip is the absolute fastest drivers towing a load was the tractor trailer drivers towing “oversized loads” driving 75 -80 mph passing cars and weaving in an out. Saw two trucks towing separate halves of a prefab house in both lanes then swapping back and forth with a chase vehicle flying up the hwy…. A yacht on a flatbed and a military tank. All flying above the traffic speed.

Seemed like they were trying to get out of the state before police stopped them…or on a time schedule

There are many people who when told "It can't be done" are determined to prove that it can. Some of those folks become famous pioneers and inventors. Some are maimed or killed and many just die broken in spirit and body.

I recall the first time I drove over the Royal Gorge Bridge in CO. The man built that magnificent bridge that everyone said couldn't be built. It had no practicality as the other side was a turn around. Seemed to me it was a lot of money and effort to prove a point. Yes I know the full story but there it is. His monument in history remains.

Some folks just blindly "go into" a project with total ignorance and blind faith. Their monuments are often twisted steel temporarily residing in a junkyard.

I have no idea how he loads or unloads that bike but obviously he did. I don't know if or how he makes a tight turn, my guess? Even with a sliding hitch he wouldn't make the turns in most campgrounds or fuel stops. But who knows? Maybe he doesn’t stop for fuel and only goes to one place he found with wide turns.

Doesn’t matter to me. When I see something like that I just give them a wide berth and say a prayer for their safety. When I was young I would deer hunt in WV with a cousin. Twice driving back to MD I witnessed a logging truck wreck after "running away" going down a mountian. One was over the edge, about 500' of air, then nose dive. The other was no making a turn and running into the rack face. In both cases, the load broke loose and let's just say it wasn't pretty. That's what I think about when I see large bikes and ATV's mounted above the bed of a pickup truck.

Try going down to Central American countries and see how they load vehicles down there. If it'll fit on a truck they'll haul it. Not uncommon for a family of 3 to ride on a 250cc enduro type bike. Dad driving..mom in the back for traction and the baby in front for a windshield!! As many that can fit standing up in the bed of a small Nissan pickup going down a mountain with crappy tires in drizzling rain. First time I landed at Toncontin airport in Hounduras on a 757 people try to touch the tires on the final approach that barely clears a mountain. Passengers pull out their prayer beads on decent and clap for a safe landing! One of the worse airports in the world for large passenger aircraft. Not uncommon for bicycle riders to hang on the rear of semi trailers going up a steep mountain and cut loose on the decent! Our first world country at least has some safety precautions.

I have seen a ramp like that for a trike on a Kenworth hauling a huge Grand design. If it is like his the ramp comes out and down to a low angle, pulls the trike onto the ramp and the ramp goes back up behind his sleeper ahead of his 5th wheel hitch. Didn't get a close look at how it actually worked but from the side looked just like that with single visible hydraulic ram.
