Question Jay; So you could previously run the 30 Amp Travel Trailer with the converter on and AC with the Champion 2500. But now you cannot do this with the 50 amp TT?

I listed all the variants but really it shouldn’t have anything to do with 30/50 amps. I believe it is either the increase in amps between the 13/15k AC or a tolerance level between the Hughes or progressive ems units. It could be the type of converter too… but I don’t have the old specs to compare.

I’m just happy it works as we had a nice temp to sleep in last night!

The soft start company say that the unit should be "retrained" prior to moving it from one AC unit to another.

How do you "re-train" the soft start?

Sorry but I didn't keep notes. It was on the Micro Aire web site.

Thanks for the info on the relearning....never knew this. Will do this when we land at our home base, since it seems to work fine now won't be crawling on the roof again!

thanks again.

I am betting that AC compressors for similar BTU models will have the same characteristics for "locked rotor" current surge on start-up. I can't imagine there are many different manufacturers of those parts. BUT, I really don't know for sure...

Report Card of actual use

Okie dokie, got the opportunity to actually try the AC on the generator (20 year old Honda 3000is) and it ran both a 15K and 13.5K AC unit at same time. Albeit it was not super hot, it ran both. Altitude about 3000ft. Ran them both in the eco mode too. That surprised me.

So even though it was expensive to purchase 2 units it was well worth it to me. Very pleased with results.
