Camp supplies

I know there is a general avoidance of CW here so what are the other options out there to buy supplies?

Depends on what you need. The RV and camping aisles at WalMart carry a lot of the basics.

My local hardware store and then Home Depot or Lowes for most plumbing, 110 vac electrical, paint, etc.

Most 12vdc stuff can be bought at any auto parts store. NAPA carries a great selection of wire, connectors, and TT/TV wiring parts. They also have towing gear as well.

For things like receivers, WD towing stuff, etc., I like my nearest trailer shop - the one that sells and services all kinds of trailers (horse, utility, etc.) They are also the primary place for TT suspension, brakes, axles, etc. If they don't have it in stock, they can usually get it in a day or two.

Don't rule out Ebay, Amazon, eTrailer, PPL Motorhomes, Mikes, and more online. Even with shipping charges, it can be cheaper to buy online than a special trip to CW. I usually check prices at CW online and then search Ebay first followed by Amazon. On Ebay, shop the seller as well as the price and shipping. I have over 500 purchases on Ebay with zero problems. On Amazon, many items qualify for free shipping if you buy $25 or more of qualified items.

LED lighting has been extensively discussed on here. CW is good for $25 per bulb. There are several Ebay sources that offer good stuff for $5 a bulb or less. You decide.

One final point. There is a lot of stuff in our RV's that is not RV specific. Shopping at home improvement centers, hardware stores, auto parts stores and more will usually yield the identical items.

I don't avoid CW at all. I make purchases based on value to me and use CW, Local RV dealer, WM, HD/Lowe's, local dollar store, Internet sites, or anywhere that offers what I need at a reasonable price.

We have spent our fair share at CW. Also WM and online retailers as well. We now have enough of the basics to make our RVing comfortable. Anything else is replacing/upgrading or an impulse. CW has just about everything. If a CW was convienient to go to, we would go there more often. Now, if we need something RV related, we (the DW) researches online and finds the best deal from the best/reputable sources. If we were new to RVing, WM would be the first place to go to get the basic items needed to get started. RVs also have several items that are found in most homes. As others have stated, home improvement centers are a great source for RV items as well. You need to know what you want/need when you go.
