I agree with notanlines above. Reality is, the concept of RV travel goes back way before this. It started with the concept of the covered wagon being pulled by horses as settlers traveled across the North America Continent. In Europe
Gypsie Wagons (click here) were the homes of that segment of society, which if you really look at what they did to those wagons, they were decked out pretty fancy.

Of course, as technology changed, the horse drawn wagon was replaced by the gasoline engine pulled automobile. Evolution only naturally followed that someone would put living quarters on 4 rubber wheels powered by gasoline too.
