Gm phasing out diesel and gas

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/aut...gines-n1256055

I really feel like every day another part of American life is under assault
I guess they will phase out fifth wheels and rv parks as well

I woudnt get to fired up about this yet, they are always way over optimistic on the timeline these things roll out. Don't forget trucks and SUV's are the only thing they really make any money on. I am all for electric, if we have the power and range, especially the range, which is tough to do with lots of weight in tow and less aerodynamics. I also seriously question if this country can produce electric power to meet these kinds of demands. I am not against diesel, i love mine, love the rattle, the noise, the coolness. Open to alternatives too.

Well all I can say is that they don't figure it out in another 14 years maybe the competition will. I'm, willing to bet there will still be commercial vehicles available that will be capable enough.

They will probably raise the taxes on diesel so no one can afford to keep there old trucks. Well I’m gonna enjoy the next few decades while I can.

Yep it’s a real shame. Will take a month to get to Florida with my electric Prius pickup truck (heavy half as good as a 3/4 ton ) pulling my popup camper stopping every 200 miles to charge batteries

It will be neat see all the farm tractors go green (not John Deere green) and the long haul truckers all carrying extension cords. Of course, once the USA is no longer an energy independent country (again), and we are experiencing sky-high fuel prices, it won't affect grocery prices or the price of other consumer goods which are transported over the highways.

I hate to be so negative but the politicians probably don’t like all of us independent types traveling all Willy nilly all over the country...I’m not a conspiracy theorist but the last year sure made me realize they don’t like small business or interstate travel without documents
Well I will get off my soapbox now lol

The tree huggers don't like the unsightly windmills or the solar farms cluttering their pristine views, nuclear is dangerous & no one wants it in their neighborhood, so I guess we'll still need that nasty fossil fuel to power all the electric plants to charge their electric cars/trucks.
Most states are closing their rest areas due to lack funds or manpower to keep them up, but if everyone is driving evs they'll need to reopen them with power ports to charge all those vehicles.
If I run out of gas or diesel I can call for someone to bring 5 gallons to get me going, how long extension cords will we need to carry when the batteries die in the middle of nowhere. Or how many hours will be sitting along side the highway plugged into the generator on the AAA rescue truck before we can take off again.

Think of the article as a concept article, like the concept cars they show at car shows that never see the light of day. In the article they mention how Biden has committed to 650,000 electric vehicles, which government agency is going to complain about the vehicles? They won't complain about the price of them

The problem, at least the way I see it, is "committing ALL government vehicles to electrical power" is doomed to fail. The first time an ambulance "dims on an emergency run" or the first time the President's car "craps in front of Buckingham Palace" or the first time a HUMVEE has to call a "time out in Afghanistan (or our next area of interest) expecting the enemy to wait patiently while we recharge"...... Well, what's good for us likely won't be "good for everyone"....

I can't imagine "resting in a rest area" for 2 or 3 hours before I can finish my trip from Gaylord to Detroit.....

We shall see just how long those extension cords can really stretch.....

I have a feeling the electric vehicles will be for the masses and the rich and powerful will still have access to whatever they want.
Like how Mat Damon and other Hollywood types can tell us all to cut back on carbon emissions and stop being so wasteful and then he climbs into a private plane and jets all over the world to give these speeches
