Skirting...

Howdy All;

Thought I'd ask how or what methods ya'll choose for skirting?

With my older TT I had 4'X8' sheets of plywood ripped into 2'X8" sheets. I primed and double top coated each of them on all 6 sides. Liked to buy 1 extra sheet (also ripped and painted), to use for connecting the pieces and any other goofs.
I attached some 2"X2" cleats to the bottom of the trailer and at the corners I'd use some of the 2X2 material for a vertical surface to screw into.
I'd also dig out the dirt rather than attempt to try and match the "lay-of-the-Land". Helps make it more solid.
A simple trapdoor for the "Flush Valves". Bought some Black PVC tubing (3"), and built my own Hard pipe system to the hole inna ground. The adapters I found at the RV supply store.
Helped keep me toasty warm thru 2 Central Utah winters...

This year I'm in a 5th. Wheel, had it fitted for some of that herculite material, turn fastners and snaps where the clearence is to tight.

Come on and share...

You can check my blog if you wish, we fulltimed for a year or so then settled here in central Georgia. It was in the teens last year and we set up skirting.
Check the blog - around November or December last year, I think - and it will show what my DH did to help us. It did help some but can't say it was a cure-all to the very cold temps some days!

antiqfreq, Howdy;

Thanks for the link.
Looks like he did a great job around the bottom.

What kinds of "fixin-up" did ya'll have to do inside ???
Now that the temps here in N.M. are starting to drop 20's
at night and 40's to high 50's during the day. I'm beginning to notice some cooler spots around the slide windows, and a few of the others as well. Specialy when the furnace cuts on... reckon it's pulling for the cold air return.

Thanks,

hankaye

Got a roll of alumnimum faced bubble wrap off EBay and using 2x2 for the framing to attach it to. Didn't have any problems last year but figured I would skirt it anyway. Still haven't had the time

We did put the insulation under our slide outs also. Since when living at our property ( we now have a house) the slides were open about 5 months (nov - march ). And it did help keep some of the cold air out. As far as inside we have the insulated bubble wrap inside ALL of the windows. If it was a nice sunny day we took it out in some areas, but otherwise left it in.

It helps keep hot out as well as cold out.

antiqfreq, Howdy;

Thinking about getting some fabric a Wall-World and make some window hangings. Can't call'em drapes, well maybe someone could...
I just intend to hang them from the top of the padded trim boxes and let them pile-up on the floor. Well, maybe that does quailfy as "drapes" I dunno.
Wasn't sure just how much cold would try to creep-in, as usual, as much as can...will.

Livin' in one of these things truly IS an ADVENTURE

Where did you find the 'insulated' bubble-wrap??? Sounds like a good idea...
if I don't have to travel 120 miles round trip to Los Cruces Nearest Lowe's or HD...

Hank, One brand is called Reflectix. You can order it on-line from Home Depot, Lowes or a supply house like Granger or McMaster-Carr and let UPS travel the 120 mi. Stay warm, Hope this helps, Hank

To those that have used the bubblewrap as window insulation: Did you use the kind with the alumimum backing (dark with no light through) or the type with no backing that allows light through? If you tried both, what is the most effective and is there that much difference?

We don't fulltime, but with the 4X7 back window, it gets pretty chilly in the early spring/late fall. It would be nice to stop some of the cold, but I'd prefer not to be in a "CAVE" if the clearer is a realistic option.

Thanks

Great question

I also have a huge window in the rear of our Outback. Our MBR is located there. Wintering in AZ with cold nights and warm days. Same issue. Would like to have light BUT block cold at night.
Let's hear from experience out there.....
