But wasn't it refreshing to see the post from someone who bought the trailer first and was looking for advice on what truck to purchase? The TT salescritter told 'em a 150 would be ok, but their hunch was that they'd really need a 250. That was so much easier to sort out.

I think Bob mentioned brakes, I had a 93 F150 and had front brakes replaced about 96 each front disk rotor was about 40 bucks. I got a 96 F250 and had front disk rotors replaced and I believe they were near 300 bucks. Not sure if that included the brakes. At the time I was upset at the cost but, they are made to do alot more than a 1/2 ton.. Last fall the front brakes on my F350 were replaced along with rotors and one wheel bearing, it was just under 1,000 bucks.

Steve -

Yes, much like Spring's late arrival, VERY refreshing. Who knows - perhaps another post just like the one you mentioned will come along again. In the meantime, I guess we will just have to get used to "Will my truck pull .....?"

We really love suburbans/yukon xls too as they would make a great travel vehicle for our family (we hate to fly). But we also love to camp...so were looking at 1500 and 2500 models. I really thought the 1500s could do more than they do - but the one we looked at had a 7k max tow weight. That;s no better than my envoy (though im sure it would do it much better). So then we look at 2500s and they cost more, ride rougher, and the gas mileage really is lower than we can live with every day. I guess thats the trade-off.

The trailer we want to get is a Passport 2920, weighs 5500 dry. They sure do sell them on how "ultralight" they are, but we test towed it with our 5.3 envoy/3.7 and it was a no go. I just dont see us investing in anything more than a half-ton vehicle. Maybe the simple answer is, we cant do it. I love the 2920 layout but maybe we need to look at a smaller camper.
