2000 f250 7.3
Well, now I'm looking at diesels. Found one close. 2000 F250 with the 7.3 and automatic. Only 107K miles. GVWR 8800, Towing Capacity 14,000, Payload 3560. Am I corect in thinking that this would be a good match to pull my TT?
6105 empty, loaded add 1570. Does the 12-15% added to the hitch weight already include the 675 lbs that the hitch weighs?

I had a 99 F250 Superduty with the 7.3L engine. Best truck I have owned. I think the biggest limitation on that truck is the GVW. You say it's the 8800 lb GVW with a payload of 3560. That's about twice what the actual payload is. Do some "real close" checking before you go much further with the calculations on capabilities. My F250 weighed in at 6900 lbs, with an 8800 GVW, by the time you add fuel and a couple of passengers, your actual payload is down to around 1500-1700 lbs.
I can't remember exactly, but I think the 2WD, 5.4L manual transmission regular cab had a payload of about 3500 lbs, but when you add the diesel, crewcab, 4WD, the payload dropped drastically.
Do some more checking on that before you sign on the dotted line, no need to be disappointed.... Payload is much less than you posted.

Nice find but doubtful it will really have over 3k in payload. Closer to 2k but still plenty for what you want to do.

I checked the fleet.ford.com site for the specs and it does say payload 3560. Maybe I'm not reading the specs correctly.

However, I don't plan on carrying much in the bed other than the spare tire.
two adults at a total of 300 lbs and a 5 lb poodle.
It did say the the trailer wiring harness was 4 pin. I think the harness on the TT more than that?

On page 66, you'll find the "maximum payload" which for the supercab 2 wheel drive 8800 lb GVW is 3560. Then continue on down to page 61 and you have to DEDUCT the weight specified in the parenthesis from that figure of 3560 for all optional equipment that was "factory installed " in the truck. .
In other words, if you have a 5.4l automatic, you deduct 0/0 lbs from 3560. If you have a 7.3l diesel, you deduct 598/626 from 3560. ie: deduct 1224 lbs from the payload (because you added a heavier motor/transmission) you must continue through the list and deduct for every option above the base truck. That document is the Fleet order/payload estimator, not a document to give GVW/Payload for assembled trucks.
To get your actual "payload" on that truck, check the sticker on the driver's door panel. Since the truck is 13 years old, it would be better to actually fill the fuel tank, drive it on the scales and weigh it, then subtract the actual weight from the GVW to get the permissible payload. I assure you, it's NOT 3560 lbs. In fact, it's probably less than half that figure.

We have an 03' 7.3 and we really do love it.
We traveled fulltime for a year and barely any problems with it.
It now has about 142,000 miles on it. Had 86,000 when we bought
it 6 years ago.
We plan to keep it forever!

We have an 03' 7.3 F-350, CC, SRW and we really do love it.
We have had barely any problems with it. Routine maintenance issues.
It now has about 202,000 miles on it. Had 79,000 when we bought
it 8 years ago. I use the silver jug Diesel Kleen supplement every fuel up.
my wife's plan is to keep it forever!
We just returned trip to the coast of NC and I averaged (no kidding) 10.75mpg going down and back. I kept my speed at 65mph.

That is the best motor and the motor I wish they kept in it. That and the new 6.7's. You shouldnt have any issue pulling or stopping your TT with that truck.

Only thing I see in pics at all is it looks like seats in front are worn a little,
but ours are really worn........so if that is ALL that's wrong - JUMP ON IT !!!

I would suggest you check the tranny fluid for burn smell on dip stick. Tranny is weakest link of the fords back than. They shift softly thru the gears and hard to tell if they are slipping until you pull a load. With that age and year if it was used for real Heavy towing it likely was fixed by now. I just had all fluids changed, tranny, rear ends and 4x4 gear box. It cost about 400.00 without knowing the maintence that might be something to consider. Engine oil will be black if many miles since the last change. That is normal. Change at 5000 miles. Looks like a nice truck good luck.

I tried all the Window Sticker sites I know of and none of them go back past 2006. I was hoping to find one just for grins to see what was in the truck. My 1999 SuperDuty Lariat had pretty much all the bells and whistles as standard. This one is a 2WD, so the dash has a couple of blank spots. I saw the fifth wheel hitch rails in the bed and the brake controller under the dash, so it's set up for towing. As I recall, all SuperDuty trucks had the towing package as standard.
My 99 4WD Lariat listed at around $52K. I'm guessing the 00 model 2WD equipped close to the same would have listed for around $47.

I think my 96 f 250 Power Stroke, 4x4, ext cab wt. was 6800lbs. GVWR was 8800lbs. The 02 that is listed below, wt. is 7800lbs with GVWR at 9900lbs. So they all have around 2000lbs for pay load. I did carry a 4400lb camper in my bed of the F350 and did not need air bags until I hitched the 3600lb boat to it. Yes it was over the GVWR by about 3,000lbs some times.

Truck sold yesterday. No longer listed on the the dealers site and the salesman who said he'd call hasn't. That's ok. I really would like to find one close to home so I can take it a have it checked.

The 7.3L is the best diesel that Ford ever put in the SD, I have a 2000 F-250 CC SRW with 242,000+ on it with only putting in a new trans at 194,000. If you get a 7.3l drop in a 6.0L tranny cooler, your tranny will love you for it.
