How much of a snow load will a 2113 21rbswe Cougar handle before I need to shovel it off(live in northern BC Canada lots of snow)?

When I lived in Central Utah, I've had up to 2' of powder
(dry), and some not quite so dry snow up there, no problems.
Sometimes we'd get that much in a day or so...
Of course, if the snow was wet, then, of course, your mileage
may vary.

Because of the narrow width of a trailer the snow is not likely to stack up that high to be a concern. Although I would not suggest leaving slides out when expecting heavy snow. If the roof can support my corpulent body concentrated standing in one spot I am not concerned about snow-load spread over the entire roof surface. JM2¢, Hank

HI During the winter of 2010 i had as much as 3.5 feet or about 1 meter of that white ^%$^$ on the roof with no problem

I think this is a case where more damage could be done trying to remove that stuff than it would do just sitting on the roof. I personally wouldn't want to get on the roof when it cold and trying to shovel from a ladder would be dangerous to you and the possible damage that could be done to the roof membrane by a shovel.

I did sweep heavy snow off my trailer before leaving home on a winter trip. As mentioned above it was not a pretty sight .... two broken Maxxair vent covers. This is the reason I now use the smoke tinted ones ... they are polycarbonate and don't shatter when very cold like the white ones do. You live and learn but the only reason I would remove snow from the trailer is if I had to take it on the road. JM2¢, Hank

I have a friend in Idaho that goes into the mountains in the winter and builds shelters over peoples trailers that they couldn't get out before the snow. Out there it'll crush them no problem

Try contacting Keystone. They should have some engineering on it. I just removed 10" off of my Everest. Mostly because I need it to head south, but that was a lot of weight up there. Thinking the tires were getting overloaded.

I have seen a little snow as We went South at about 55miles per hour gone in 1/2 mile just leave it and loose it driveing.works for My Bushman

In Pennsylvania, I would be fined for doing that. They bear down on people that allow snow to blow off while driving. Creates a travel hazard for thise behind.....

A cubic foot of water weighs ~62.43lbs, a foot of snow melts into about an inch of water.
So an 8' wide trailer with a foot of snow on it will have about 52 lbs of snow per foot on length. - a 20 foot trailer will have 1040 lbs, a 30 foot trailer will have 1560 lbs.
I would start to worry somewhere in the 3-4 foot range.

Going over the math...isn't one cubic foot of snow equal to 1/12 of one cubic foot of water or 5.205 pounds, using your figures? Therfore the 8' roof holds 41.64 pounds per foot. Twenty foot trailer a total of 832.8 pounds per foot of snow.

Ken Hellevang, from the University of North Dakota says:

Wet snow will be about 12.5 lbs per cu ft

Light fluffy will be about the 5.2 lb mark

An 8' roof of Heavy Wet stuff is 100 lbs per foot and a ton (2000 lbs) over the length of 20' trailer.

I'd err on the heavy side as the stuff compacts and becomes more heavy

I have a couple of Snorakes which will clean off a car or RV roof without damaging anything. With a 6 foot step ladder, I could clean snow off the roof of our previous trailer in just a few minutes. (The Cougar gets stored for the winter under a roof so it's not an issue for us now.) This is a Snorake:



The orange "rake" portion is made out of some kind of durable foam that is soft on the surface, but strong and rigid underneath. It works best when cleaning off an RV roof if you just pull a small amount to you rather than trying to push across the trailer.

What do you mean when you say "I could clean snow........". Does the person in the photo who is doing the cleaning, look like Steve?

This can't be real!! I have never seen a woman or a man smile when they are removeing snow! and her mother is yelling at her "where is your hat young lady?" they do work well we have two them at our shop to clean off customers cars
