Traveling from Indio to Idyllwild

Planning to camp in Idyllwild at a TT campground. Have noticed many hwy's to get there: 243, 74 and 79 I believe. All of them off interstate 10. I'm towing a 38ft 5er weighing a little over 13K. Which is the better route? I noticed 243 is a short drive to preserve from I10 but it's quite a grade. Which would be RV friendly for what I'm towing?

Thank you.
