Rooftop Satellite Prep

Trying to determine where the cable in these photos actually goes, or if it’s just some cruel joke from Keystone. I’d like to put a satellite antenna on the roof, (not worried about trees, we camp mostly in the desert southwest). I’m 60, and a little “chubby”, so I don’t want to crawl around the roof trying to trace the damn thing, just wondering if it should be up there, sealed under a plate.

There should be a plate on the roof, where exactly I don’t know.

Since you will be parking under trees at many RV parks, consider a tripod so you will be able to locate your dish where it has a clear view of the southern sky. Also keep in mind that the dish must be oriented somewhat to the southern sky to acquire a satellite. Perhaps fancier dishes don't have that characteristic such as the ones that can stay on a bird while moving down the road?

I would suggest you look at the KeyTV guide on the Keystone RV site under Owners. Looks like it goes to Wineguard 360 unit on the roof.

I think what is depicted in the OP's pic is a newer iteration of the KeyTV panel. I have a 2020 and do not have that blue tab marked 'Sat Prep'. The guide you linked also does not depict the 'Sat Prep' connection.

The version in the copy I received with rv built in June2021 does not address sat prep. However, a new section was added to the version online now include section on roof mount satellite prep. I need to check today and see if my rv has that blue connection. This is one of the better “ready/prep” packages I have seen from Keystone. The Solar ready is a joke!

Thanks, GoNavy. I searched everywhere, and couldn’t find that. Makes it very clear what I’d need to do. Our trailer was made late in 2020, when they’ were about to switch to making the ‘21s, so that may explain why ours had the extra cable.

Check on Amazon or probably any big box store, Lowes, Home Depot, for a cable signal tool. Should be less than $50. Generates a signal and helps ID the cable.

That cable is a separate run to the rooftop for your SAT antenna... It doesn't run thru the KeyV module nor the Winegard 360 antenna...

And be glad that it doesn't.. The KeyTV module has been a very poor design from the beginning and its failure rate is high..

Also if you use ANY portable SAT antenna then most likely the SAT antenna servos won't et enough power from the power inserter and you wont find any satellites..

That is one reason Keystone has started adding a separate dedicated feed to the roof but still want you to connect that coax from the roof and route thru the KeyTV module to have signal source inside the RV at each TV outlet...

Good luck

And I’d you really wanna see what is going on with the coax cables and splitters these will do the task

RF signal generator and scope. I actually used this once on the Alpine to find out why the signal to TV set in LR would fade out after about 4 hours while the BR TV still had perfect picture

Huh??? Sat prep

So I am totally new. We pick up our 2023 Avalanche 390ds next week. I just began to wonder if it is prepped for a sat. We do have that dish thing. I am reading the signal strength and wiring is very poor signal strength. Can you clarify (for a brand-new person lol).
