An ounce of prevention...
Just thought I'd share an experience with you folks that I came across today.
I decided I would pull the wheels off the raptor to have a look and see what shape the brakes were in. I haven't noticed any particular issues with them, but we put a lot of miles on it over the winter, and with another lengthy trip in the near future, I decided to have a look.
The first hub I took apart looked good. Lots of grease, and the pads and puck still had lots of life left.
The second one I pulled, I noticed a small amount of water dribble out, and the grease looked contaminated. Just the very beginning of bearing failure. It likely would have gone a few more thousand miles before it failed, but it certainly would have.
Just goes to prove, a little preventative maintenance goes a long way.
Edit: I should add, for those that don't know, this is the result of a leaking seal. New seal are on order, as well as a new bearing. The old one is fine, and I'll clean it completely, repack it with new grease and keep it in a container in my tool box in the rig, for emergency use.
