Maybe overloaded...

We are staying in the KOA in Petaluma and next to us is a 4 slide Montana and the tow vehicle is a Toyota Tundra, EXT cab, short bed.
That looks to me to be an complete over match. I had drawn a complete blank but the Tundra is the biggest Toyota truck?
Must be fun if they hit any passes...

Yes, it is. Tacoma is the smaller cousin. Just looked up the specs on a max tow package 2017 RWD regular cab 5.7 V8. Payload maxes out at 2080 lbs and 10,500 towing capacity.

Walk over and ask him how wonderful his Tundra pulls his ULTRALITE 5th wheel. Put an emphasis on the word "ultralite".

I'd just try to pull out ahead of him and get FAR away before he hits the road. Literally.

You might go and ask how that pulls and how much fun he's having. I wonder about who was crazy enough to install his hitch for him? Wow. Just wow.

Kind of like this? Must be the thing to do when pulling a Montana. I snapped a pic of this today and couldn't believe it.

Hopefully, whoever is driving that rig isn't taking a picture of you passing to show his wife what they should be using as a TV.

I know when I was shopping for my dually the car salesmen didn't even know there was a payload sticker. I'm beginning to think it's the same for many RV dealers too.

My DW is very alert and also points out overloaded rigs we see. It's amazing what we see out there.

I think anyone who spends any time behind the wheel of a tow vehicle with a trailer "of any significant size" behind them is (or should be) keenly aware of the weight they're pulling and the capacity of their tow vehicle. Some of us are more "conservative" in that "upper limit" than others, but I think, for the most part, all of us stop short of the "Hey, hold my beer and watch this" attitude (although we've all seen those attitudes portrayed, even on this forum). So when we see something like these pictures either in a campground or on the highway, we all react with a certain emotional involvement since "they are one of us", the towing public. What they do, what they cause, in some way, does reflect on the entire population of "RV people" when viewed by "not RV people"...

I also have had a number of conversations with "salesmen" in many capacities, with far too many of them having knowledge in sales techniques and yet "critically ignorant" about the real capacity/capability of what they're selling. To me, it seems they're more interested in making the sale than they are in even considering the safety/reliability/capability of their product when it's attached to the other half of the purchaser's rig.

It comes across as a feeling of "I sell trucks, not trailers" or "I sell trailers, not trucks" and to them, any consideration of the two (as a unit) isn't "their responsibility".....

I haven't had the "fortune" (good or bad) of dealing with a salesman at a business which sells trucks AND trailers, so maybe there's a different perspective if a salesman is selling both halves of a rig, but in my experience, salesmen who only sell "their half" don't consider the purchaser's ambitions or plans unless asked, and even then, many can't even answer questions about their own product, much less how it relates to the whole.

Kind of highlights the importance of self-reliance.

I can say that the dealership I bought my travel trailer did ask about my tow vehicle. They wanted to know the type and asked more than once what the tow capacity is. I think the difference between that dealership and others (which was mentioned earlier)is the fact that they are a gmc dealer also. So I agree with it all depends if they sell more than just campers.

I worked with a guy in south Texas that pulled a triple axle 5th down to Catarina from Houston with a Tundra. He was mentally defective in other areas as well.

The first time any of these people need to stop in an awful hurry they may see the light. May pull the trailer down the road with no issues, but in an emergency stop good luck.

Not even a Montana High Country has a PUBLISHED payload that low.
When my CW sales manager at CW told a customer his Chevy 2500 diesel was not up to the task of safely towing a Landmark as the payload would be nearly twice the trucks payload the buyer called him a liar, said some nasty words and left.
As stated above- truck salesmen are in the dark too. When buying an F350 the sales manager had me talk to the sales staff about the 'yellow sticker ' . An F250/2500 diesel will pull about anything but that doesn't mean they should.

You sure he's not a seasonal and the dealer brought it there? The KOA we go to in NY, there are a lot of 5'er owners that are seasonal, we walk by and I see a f150, S10. etc. and I know that can't tow the 5'ers they're in

The Montana High Country line is mostly for a 2500/3500 world, and the Montana line most are a DRW world. Most of a dry pin of 2400, all gross out over 14k, the Montana line gross out over 16k with a dry pin of 2500 for most floor plans
