Built in vacuum

I have a factory installed built-in vacuum in my Montana. It is installed at floor level which requires getting on ones hands & knees to feel around (unless you turned on lots of lights on) to turn ON or OFF.

My question, I would like install an external switch higher inside the cabinet, how hard is it to get the vacuum out to add a new switch in series with existing switch.

I have no problem the electrical but getting on the floor is getting harder.
I open to any options.

Don't know what kind you have. I installed an after market built in Dirt devil in a motor home we had. It turned on when the hose was inserted into the intake. You may be able to adapt yours to do the same thing. Research your make, there may be an optional inlet that activates upon opening.

Vacuum switch

We have a factory installed Red Devil vacuum and it turns on automatically when one lifts the port to plug in the hose, both in the foyer and in the basement, just like what Bullet1Owner said. Could there be a selector switch to select this option?
