yes you do. because, the battery acts as a filter for the electrical system such as the converter. Yes you can run the TT's systems with out it, but it is hard on the equipment.

The radio will buzz, the furnace and fridge (both use the 12v for the control boards and fans) will be damaged and you will shorten the life of the converter, especially if the positive battery cable hits the frame.
As far as the electric brakes are concerned you are violating federal law to run a trailer with electric brakes without a battery.
