We drove through Henderson SP last month to check it out. Very impressed! Most sites are a very good size with privacy as well. It is right in town but has the feel of being "out in the boonies". The campground area of the park has it's own boardwalk that leads to a great beach. Spoke with a few campers and all reviews were positive including no complaints of noise from the nearby main road. It fills up quick so get online and book if at all interested. Google earth is good for seeing the sites and choosing one that fits your preferences.

340, don't rule out Gulf Shores State Park in, naturally, Gulf Shores, Alabama. 500 spaces, all are nice and spacious. It is very near the finest beaches in all the world and has many amenities. The other side of this is that you wont be swimming in either Destin or Gulf Shores any time soon. The high Thursday will be 39 in Destin.

We have stayed at Top Sail. Its a very nice park. The park is very clean and well maintained. Large sites, beautifully landscaped. If you go to ReserveAmercia, you can see photos of each spot and reserve the one you want.

You don't want to miss it.

If you like the looks of Top Sail, I would suggest you make res. now. Hard place to get into, and res are made way in advance.

Top Sail looks nice and glad I read this thread. We love Destin but haven't taken the toy hauler there but have talked about it. I find out my vacation weeks tomorrow or Thursday so may book a week or two. Surprisingly there are slots available this summer. I looked at Henderson State Park also but we definitely want sewer hookups. How far of a walk on average would you say it is to the beach?

Check out Camping on the Gulf (I think it's campgulf.com). Great place, you can camp right on the beach or up away. A lot to do with the kids, the beach is great but its a bit pricey. Definitely call for reservations first.

Top Sail appears to be booked solid all of June and at least the first half of July. I just got my vacation schedule and off most of June so need to get something planned. Thought about going west but really want to head to the Destin area then up to Tennessee to visit my family. Hoping someone cancels and I get lucky. I'll check out camping on the Gulf, thanks.

Checked out Camping On The Gulf, very nice but outrageously priced in my opinion. They did have some spots open beginning of June though but $895 for a week!

Camping on the Gulf will give you a 10% Good Sam discount (if you are a member). They have cheaper sites as you get farther from the water. We have stayed there numerous times and can't get enough.

Top Sail SP is absolutely beautiful. The only drawback is getting to the beach. No motorized vehicles are allowed from the parking area to the beach - except a tram you can ride (and hopefully figure out a way to get all your beach equipment to the sand). The path from the parking area to the beach is an easy 1/2 mile.

Compared to Camping on the Gulf, the sites are huge and the price is way cheaper. There are advantages to both, it all depends on your plans/activities during your stay.

Destin, just returned ...

We stayed at Top Sail for 4 nights. $42 a night, full hookups, clean, good bike/ walking/ hiking trails, beautiful beach, two lakes that you can bike or walk to. While there we checked out Henderson and Grayton beach state park- if we go back , Grayton would be my pick, little more rustic than Top Sail ( no pit fires at Top S. Unless you bring your pit) Grayton has sites with sewer, some without . Where ever you stay on Hwy. 30-A, there is a nice bike lane that goes for miles along 30-A. Kayaking in the area if you look. Overall, it's a beautiful area with lots to do and see.... Have fun.

You can also try Geronimo RV Resort only a short distance from Camp Gulf. No pool or play ground, but only about 2 blocks from the beach. Real quite and clean. They have a pretty good web-site to check them out.
