Black Tank Clogged

Currently dealing with my first clogged black tank.

We have tried running the flush outside but it only produced pretty clear water.

We tried to (what I call reverse flush) open the grey tank, lift the hose above the grey to flush the water into the black (black open and grey closed) in order to try and push the clog around.

Nothing seems to be working. I just put TST Max in there to try and break down some of the poo and toilet paper particles.

We have to go to Thanksgiving soon so I am hoping it has time to help while we are gone.

If the flush is running clear out the termination point ( where you hook up the drain hose) then your black tank canít be clogged.

If your sensors are reading anything other than empty, the likely cause is TP hanging up on them. You can add any type of enzyme cleaner you want, but the tank will need to be filled FULL and it will take hours/days to clear it.

The tank is full though because it is burping (right) and we haven't drained it since we have been here (this would be the first drain). When we first flush it goes brown for a tiny bit then to clear water.

Have you tried cycling the valve?

If this is your FIRST drain, there may be the piece of the tank from when they drilled for the toilet drain. Iíve seen it a couple of times over the years and the repair isnít pleasant.

Youíll have to get to the drain valve at the tank, and take it apart. Then use a light to find it and remove it.

If itís a straight shot to the black tank, you may try a drain snake from the termination point. Just be ready for the poonami.

Might be better off contacting this company. A neighbor in the park we are at, a couple years ago, had failed to fully keep the black tank valve closed and ended up with the dreaded pyramid. It's messy, but the poo tech got the tank cleaned out. https://kleentank.com/

After running the black tank flush, putting in TST Max (liquid). Some sludge was finally able to move and come out. The sensors now say that the tank is clean though you can see the water in the tank when attempting to flush the toilet.

In the morning I am making my Black Friday trip to Camping World to get some Unique RV-Digest It (what I read on multiple blogs and youtube videos was best).

IF you don't have the dreaded installation toilet cutout drifting about in the black tank, and there is a straight drop form the toilet into the black tank where the level of the tank is viewable with the toilet flush valve open; I highly recommend that while you are at Camping World today, purchase a tank cleaning wand with shut off valve, probably a $10 item. That tool will minimize your headaches going forward and since it actually acts as a "butterworth machine" (tank cleaner) use of chemicals might not even be necessary other than odor reduction.

Pipe was partially clogged causing water to sit at the top of the bowl while the actual tank was empty which is why the flush was running clean and the sensors showed empty.

going to buy some digest anyway since there is still stuff coming own when filling the bowl to the top and draining.

Overall, time, water and snake fixed this one.

Thanks everyone

We've had our black tank get clogged a couple times. The way we have found to break it loose is to use a flush king to back flush water up the drain from the valve. Don't let it run very long. Just enough to push the clog back a bit then release to see if it breaks free. Do this repeatedly until the line clears.

Blank tank clogged

My brother in law had this happen due to poo mound in a new to them 5th wheel. I ran a garden hose down the toilet and with full pressure moved the hose back and forth with a lot of draining. Some came out. On the forth attempt with the hose I was also able to pound on the bottom of the tank with my fist and all of a sudden the mound broke free and came out. We flushed another 2 times to ensure tank was clear. No further problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. We had a tech come out and flush the tanks and I am pretty sure there was enough poo compiled in it from the previous owner where they never flushed it.

Either way we are good to go now, PLUS he sold me his flush wand that he made in case it happens again.

I see several promoting using this device. The issue is if there's a couple 90į bends in the drain line there's no water pressure past those bends, it's basically just adding a small bit of water from the drain side back towards the tank whereas most of it just runs back out the drain hose. The extra valve on the sewer connection is a good idea though!
If your toilet is clogged your far better off using the wand down through the toilet where the mound is, in most cases the clog won't be at the drain valve unless the tank cutout John mentioned has blocked it, but even then that flush fitting won't help much.

This is what the tech did, he built a wand himself. I got him to sell it to me as well.

1 problem down, 99 more to go

Basically, you have a clog at the very end of your toilet pipe. It creates a pyramid of you know what at the bottom my guess is that your toilet bubbles or lets air out when you go to flush. I found this out by removing the toilet and the pipe After it happened to me more than once. We use a product called commando that we bought from Walmart that was only $10. It worked after about 24 hours in the tank one quick tip is about 20 minutes before you get to a location stop and get a bag of vice and put it in the toilet. What basically happens is the ice swishes back-and-forth and helps break down that pyramid at the bottom . Since we started doing this, we have had no trouble at all.
