Looking for a Mattress Recomendation
RV sized Queen Bed.
We have Memory Foam over the original mattress, and it is ok, but as we will be doing more traveling, want a supportive & comfortable mattress.
Want something that will last life of camper plus.
We also made the pull out bed more comfortable for guests by permanently adding plywood under the center section foam section so the cross brace pressure is distributed, added 1" yoga matt foam under the springs, as well as in the area where you head lies, and topped off the entire thing with another 1.5" thick memory foam topper. All tis actually stores nicely under the couch and is not that difficult to set up. Our Dog Abby is quite comfortable.

When we got our second trailer, it had a mattress that looked the same as our first...but it was terrible. I actually sold the mattress new on craigslist for ?? and went and bought a Bear mattress from google searches and reviews. I have to say that after many nights of sleeping on this I actually prefer sleeping in the trailer to my own bedroom.

DW and I are just too old to sleep on a slab of foam and call it a mattress. Like Danny, we had the bed in Florida cut down to a queen and bought a firm, non-pillowtop Serta Perfect Sleeper. No problems and no sweats because of the foam.

I recently purchased the short queen 8 inch Zinus green tea memory foam mattress from Amazon. So far it is amazing, very firm with that nice memory foam softness which sinks down about 2 inches. It is highly rated. We have had it for about 3 weeks. $264 out the door.
Very nice!

Having many types of mattresses over the years with different campers it's definitely been a chore finding a "good fit" mattress.
After searching, and doing many reviews, we recently took the plunge and purchased a Milliard Brand Tri-fold Queen mattress for our Hybrid bed end.
Took the camper out this past weekend and tried out the mattress, and was wonderfully impressed at the comfort, and firmness, which we like, and no bottoming out like other mattresses in the past had done. We were finally SOLD, and impressed with a good nights sleep, on a quality mattress.
The fact that it's a Tri-Fold was a nice feature for our Hybrid end, when closing up. Weighing at about 15lbs folded was a nice feature too.

I personally feel the mattress in the camper should be as good or better than the one in the house. I suppose it's all a matter of how one approaches their camping experience and how they view their camper.
For us, (all) of our campers have been our vacation destination location. I know it has wheels and moves, but all of our campers have always been decked out with the best of everything, like one would expect if they stayed in a 5 star motel. No skimping, no cheating, only the best, finest, and most luxurious. Why should "camping" be a "roughing it" experience. If we wanted "rough" we'd go back to tent camping. So, luxury is our goal. Why not?
So, when it came to the mattress on all of our camper beds, we eventually swapped out the original RV mattress for the same kind we had in the house, and that was a Serta... you know, the sheep counting mattress. We did not cheat or skimp here. It was just as important we get a good nights sleep if we are home on a Wednesday night and have to go to work the next morning, or if we were camping a month in a barn lot and waking up with the cow mooing in our window.
We ran the gauntlet (learning curve) with toppers, cheap mattresses, and short cuts. When we changed our mental concept about the camper being our "luxury love shack" things changed and things got elegant (and romantic). That also meant a REALLY nice mattress! No more shortcuts.
Well, eventually we discovered Helix mattresses. The mattress's in the house got swapped out to Helix and then the Serta in the camper seemed ... well ... cheap!
We have a 12 inch thick Helix in the camper now. It sleeps marvelous. There's no difference between the house and the camper now. It's listed #3 in the top 10 list of luxury mattresses. And ... it's worth every penny.
Disclaimer: It ain't cheap! You can go cheap and wake up with a stiff neck, soar shoulder blades, and hips that feel like you need joint replacements. Or you can go "classy" and get something that feel like you are sleeping on floating clouds!
In the end ... it's really all a matter of how much you want to spend. But, if you are not willing to pay the price, don't expect a good night's sleep.

We bought a conventional queen pillow top 14" from Billy Bob's Beds in San Antonio. It was so darn hard to get up into our camper's bedroom area, it isn't ever coming out as it doesn't bend much if at all. Had a young healthy guy help me get it up there. It was an identical match to the mattress we had in the house except that one was a king and it has since been replaced by a "foam" mattress my daughter recommended (she loved hers) and bought from us. She even paid some guy to haul the old mattress (14" king pillow top) off as I couldn't really handle disposal myself.
When you ask about a mattress it leans to the waste of time side of the scales. Everyone will tell you what they have and since their buying decisions reflect their taste and intelligence... well their mattress becomes the bee's knees!

I purchased ZINUS 12 Inch Green Tea Cooling Memory Foam Mattress [New Version], Queen, Fiberglass Free, Medium Firmness, Cooling Gel Foam, Certified Safe Foams & Fabric, Mattress in A Box. I've been using it daily for about 3 months and it's helped decrease my back pain significantly. My only regret is that I did not get the queen short rather than the queen mattress. The reason for that is in my trailer the mattress now sticks out where the heat vent blows straight up and hits the end of the mattress which is less heat efficient and also makes your sheets and blankets blow around and that absolutely terrified my cats. It also takes up more room when you're trying to walk around the bed. So if I had to do it over again I would definitely buy the queen short. If you do go with this one when you get it it's rolled up and let me tell you stand back once you cut that plastic LOL. It expands very quickly and is ready to go on the bed almost immediately.
I also purchased a mattress protector, HUXMEYSON Queen Mattress Protector, Fully Waterproof Mattress Protector, Breathable and Noiseless Mattress Cover with 8-21 Deep Pocket, 60 x 80 Inch.
The third item I bought after I complained in my friend about the sheets popping off the bed. Gorilla Grip Bed Sheet Straps, Adjustable Elastic Fasteners with Metal Clips, Keep in Place Fitted Bedding Holder, Easy Install Suspenders Mattresses, Firm Tight Accessories, 4 Pack White
They work like garter belts for your sheet and mattress pad LOL.
I bought all three of those items on Amazon but you can probably find them anywhere. Good luck and I hope you find one that works well for you

This.
I sleep better on this mattress than my $8000 fancy mattress at home. Seriously.

We measured our King size RV mattress and went to Verlo Mattress. They built a mattress for us……even let us climb up on the build table to test it and make changes before it was completed…….friend of ours owned the business, but other mattress stores allow you to lie on their displays. They even have the ability to hinge the mattress if wanted to allow ease to access under bed storage. I believe the cost was $600

Brooklyn bedding has a great reputation and if we didn’t love our current RV mattress so much, we would buy one from them.
Had a sleep number and hated it so much we couldn’t even give it away, plus it was prone to condensation and it developed mold, so it was unhealthy.

We bought an RV Queen short Ghostbed on Amazon recommended by a friend. Pricey but just as comfortable as our home bed.
