Need to replace AC unit

Hello All,

I have a 2018 Keystone Cougar 367FLS. The front AC is a Dometic 15k BTU system. This rig has what Keystone calls the Race-Track duct system, so both the front and back units pump air into the ducts throughout the trailer. The front unit has stopped working, and I need to replace it. Both units are controlled by Dometic thermostats and are air conditioning only, without a heat pump.

Could I replace the unit with the Coleman-Mach 15k unit or do you feel I must stick with Dometic?

Any other recommendations?

You’ll find nothing but roadblocks and headaches trying to switch brands…..Just sayin. IIRC from my class, Furrion is compatible with Dometic, just need a conversion box.

Someone just mentioned the Advent A/C units available through E-Trailer and they have excellent reviews. They appear to be directly compatible with Dometic units and are priced much better than similar Dometic units.

What are your thoughts on the Recpro units?

It look like the RecPro units work by the RecPro remote. If you installed, you would have to run thermostat wires from the furnace to a new thermostat.

Hello,

I decided to go with the Recpro 15kBTU system and purchased a non-programable battery-operated thermostat to run the furnace now.

Should I see the two blue wires for the furnace going into and out of the old Domestic AC control box? I hope that is the case so I can splice them together.

Probably not. Your furnace will have 4 wires.

12V positive
12V negative
2Ea blue thermostat wires.

You could run 12V to the furnace and then use this thermostat to operate it, using the blue wires.

Just to throw this out: Is it worth a hundred dollar savings to risk this grief? I think not. It has been my experience that replacing items with the original is a better deal.

We replaced an A/C unit and bypassed In Command by putting in stand alone wall mounted thermostat.
Deleted selection for 2nd A/C on In Command Screen.

Crossover air still works fine. We just have direct control over one room A/C now.

All,

I went with the RecPro AC and loved it. It is very quiet! I installed a battery-operated Heat-only thermostat for the furnace and ran new blue wires down to the furnace. It was really much easier than I had anticipated.
