Winterizing the refrigerator question

Do you leave the doors ajar or do you close them up tight? We've always left them open an inch or so but can't say way - other than "we've always done it that way!

I have always left my doors propped open for air circulation. My last fridge was a Dometic and it came with special plastic clips to hold the doors open. I don’t recall if my new Furrion has something similar since we are still camping through early November, but if not I will still prop them open. I do the same with my outdoor kitchen fridge

As others have mentioned, I leave the doors propped open whenever the fridge off.

Not winterizing but in the az heat when the fridge is off between trips I use a couple pool noodles sliced down the middle to wrap on the edge of the doors and keep them open. I also use them to place on the edge of the counter top that the door would hit if it flew open while towing....... Pool noodles are a great RV must have

Common sense says prop them open. As was mentioned, no odor, no mildew.

When we got home today from camping, we decided to empty the fridge in case I get deployed for the Southern storms (Helene & Milton) and get frozen out of further trips before I get back.

I have a 10 cf Furrion 12v refrigerator, so I just turned the dial counterclockwise until it “clicked” and the compressor shut off. I looked in my pouch of manuals and literature and found a door hold-open clip that snaps into the face frame of the fridge, popped it in place and the doors latch into it holding both refrigerator and freezer doors open. Once it is warm I will give it a good cleaning and leave a box of baking soda inside, but will leave the doors propped open until we use it again (hopefully before April).

Replacement clips (third-party, but work fine) are available at Amazon [LINK].

Those worked fine on my 6cf dual fuel fridges but not on my 10 cf Furrion 12 volt fridge. It uses a different clip device.

Do you have a solar charger?

If you leave the doors ajar don’t forget to disable the light. My solar trickle charger will operate the refrigerator even when the battery is disconnected.

This is what the Furrion version looks like. I found mine in my bag of manuals.

My light goes off after a couple of minutes with the door open with the Furrion unit. On my prior Dometic, as long as the power button was in the “Off” position, the light didn’t work.

That's the latch I was referring to in post 9. Thanks!

We always leave the fridge doors open with the clips that stop them from fully opening or closing. But I really like Phil's (Peto) idea of using pool noodles! Great idea!
