Thank's Javi...so much better then the F-250 SRW. Made about a 30 mile test run Sunday evening and a 150 mile round trip this week to Grand Isle State Park. Truck did great and pulls the close to 14K pound toyhauler easily!

Ended up with the BakFlip MX4...a lot heavier then the VP model I had on my '13 F-150!

I like that Q20 hiding in there. That's the hitch I'm considering when I upgrade.

Tbos,

Does your truck have the fifth wheel "puck" system in the bed? If so, Curt does have that hitch head available both as you see it on pawpaw's truck (inbed rail system) and with the "puck legs".

If you haven't got the "pucks" and your truck is a 2016 or older (not the new 2017's) you can install that type system for about the same price as installing the "inbed rails". I believe Javi installed the Reese underbed puck system in his dually. He can tell you more on the details, but I'd consider a "clean bed" capability if you're going to be "starting from scratch".....

JRTH, I don't have the puck system. Need to sell the house before we can get a 5er. Hope to do that next spring. If I can do a clean bed install that is preferable but to be honest I don't plan on taking the hitch out once it's installed. Plan is the key word there. The clean bed definitely gives you more flexibility if you need it.

It took me and a young fellow (early 40's) about 4 hours and an 18 pack to install the under-bed mounts and pucks... but while we were doing that we installed Firestone air bags at the same time... and no air tools... compressor was busted.

Ford wanted around $600 bucks for the puck mounting system and then hundreds more for the install. I just ended up going old school and was able to get a new 5th wheel and install for less. Ford doesn't offer the puck system on a 4x2 truck which I think is strange..only on 4x4's. Best way is to make sure the truck has or gets the factory prep pkg. If you miss drill a hole in the bed for the pucks it ain't gonna be nice!!

The Curt can be broken down into 2 pcs using pins...the rails only stick up about 3/4 of an inch so its not too bad. I leave mine in and now its covered!

Too old for that crap Javi...hope the holes for the pucks didn't present any problems drilling. Old trucker here too...drove for Texaco from 1972 to '84...tankers and vans until they shut down our loading facility. Stayed there working in the marine bunkering dept until 1988 when I took a severence package and left. Sold cars and trucks from late '88 to early '89...(yeah they were Fords) then got on with a company that built steel utility poles..sub stations and cell towers...stayed there until late 2011 when I retired. I handled the shipping of these structures all over the U.S. and other parts of the world.

I remember you saying previously that there were supply issues with getting the components to install on some of the 2017 models. I don't think there's the same supply problems with Ford parts or with Reese parts for the 2016 and older trucks, either 4x2 or 4x4 versions. From what I've seen (very limited) and from what I've heard, the only holes that require drilling are the 5 "huge holes" for the pucks. All the frame holes are "bolt up ready". And those 5 holes are clearly marked with dimples in the bed sheetmetal. From the guys that do the installs at a local truck accessory shop, even if you're blind, if you can read braille and have a finger, you can find the dimples that mark where to drill the bed. They say it's a "fool-proof" installation, so there shouldn't be any problems with misdrilled holes..... Of course, that doesn't account for the "accident prone" individual who can't read braille. For them, I suppose it's "hold my beer and watch this"....

Looking at some of the workers at places around here I would say anything is possible. Son in laws 2012 F-250 had the puck system installed with no problems..we still have the 18k Reese Elite to fit in case we ever have to use his truck again. Too many workers you see look they just got out of a drug re-hab facility! I was mainly speaking about my aluminum bed on my '17 getting screwed up. I bought a discount dually so I have to improvise!!!
