2016 Passport 2890RL

I just purchased a 2016 Passport 2890RL. In running a search I have not come across many 2890 posts. If you have a 2890, please chime in here so I can get to know others with the same model as mine.

2890rl

We purchased an 2015 2890RL in August. We love it. It was an upgrade from a Summerland 2020RL. The slide out makes all the difference.

We purchased A 2012 Passport 2890 RL in June of 2012, it was a great trailer and we really enjoyed owning it the two years before we traded to a 5th wheel. Both the DW and I or larger people and the small bathroom and tight bedroom along with the small kitchen and lack of counters made the change to a fifth wheel an easy choice.

My bet is that normal size folks will really enjoy 2890 RL it was just not for us in the long run. But served us well while we looked for our retirement trailer, and hopefully our last trailer purchase.

We will probably upgrade in a few years. I will have to upgrade the tow vehicle first, then the trailer. We have time since I am still working and a few years from retirement. We are both just over 6', so I'm sure we will find the bathroom small, so if we find we are useing it a lot, an upgrade will be in our future.

We purchased a 2016 2890rl in late December. Almost bought one in LaPorte, TX during Thanksgiving while visiting in Baytown. Caught the dealer trying to pass it off as brand new and still under factory warranty. He couldn't answer simple warranty questions that I already knew the answers. We had been looking at this modell for 3 months. Quick call to Keystone with vin and trailer had been sold as new 10 months earlier. Did some minor mods and first long trip is 3rd week of Feb. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we have in the short time we have had it. Only me and wife so it is perfect for us.

That dealer is one everyone needs to stay FAR away from. You caught him, the next buyer may not have ~~ until needing warranty work.

I think it's still for sale. After I purchased ours, I saw the ad for one in LaPorte, it does say used, but in the pictures it shows all the labels are still on everything (like the TV and toilet) so it looked like someone must have bought it but never used it. It is also nearly $10,000 less than what I paid for the one we got. I was very curious and wanted to stop in just to take a peek and see if it looked like it had been used or not. But, at $18,000 asking price for a 2015 model does look to be a good price, even at used.

Newb

Greetings,

We just ordered our 2890rl yesterday. Our first TT.

Now for the anxiety/fun of getting everything else for it.

I'm usually pretty good at researching the net but I cannot find an owners manual or specs. Any places you can point me to?

Phil from Wisconsin

You wont find an owners manual specific to your model, but heres a link to the Keystone Owners Manuals.

Thanks Mike. I had looked at that one and found it is the generic one.

Working as a GM technician for most of my life, we had very specific manuals for each model.

I realize that RVs have many different options but the only option available for the 2890RL is the 15,000 AC or alloy wheels.

So am I correct to assume that I will get a 24# pack of manuals for each component on the TT?

Hitch Height

Mike, how high did you mount your hitch? I see you have a GMC 1500, me too. Mine has the Z71 and the towing package.

I see the average height to the top of the ball is somewhere in the 21-23" range. Did that work for you?

I have an adjustable hitch, had to lower it to match the tongue when the trailer was level. Hope you get a weight distribution hitch with sway control. My sway control is the camber style, I prefer it over the friction. What I was told is that the friction sway control stops the sway once it starts, the camber sway control prevents it from ever starting.

Level your trailer, measure the height of your tongue, then adjust your ball to that. Then when you hook up, you want to use your weight distribution to get them back up to the same height you originally measured. If the trailer is slightly nose down, it's ok, but not nose up and you don't want your truck to be squatting.

Yep, just wondering what your ball height was since I cannot find any info and the trailer wont be here for another month.

Just putting stuff together and wanted to have the hitch the right height.

I'm still struggling with not having a manual for the trailer. I would think that on page 6 it would have the preferred height for optimal chassis and axle geometry.

I've spent a lifetime making things to spec and not having specs is blowing my mind.

I'm used to control arm angles and camber/caster and steering axis inclination!
