Water pump stays on...

If I understand it correctly, the water pump will only come on when the water pressure drops such as when a faucet is opened. A couple times recently after flushing the toilet I heard the pump come on but it stayed on for a long time before shutting off. Is this a pump problem?

Water pumps have a pressure switch, and if there is an air pocket in the system, it can take a long time to build enough pressure to shut off. Air compresses easier than liquid, and that can cause long run times. There is also an adjustable diaphragm on the pump at the pressure switch.

A leak can also cause problems. Check all your connections at the sinks, and the water pump. Has it acted this way all the time you've had the unit, or did it just start doing this.

Its only done it a couple of times. So your theory about air in the line seems likely.

Thanks!
