Duramax crew 2500-pulling fuzion 390????
Im about to buy a Fuzion 390 Chrome. I have a 2013 duramax 2500 crewcab z-71. Im being told it will pull it without issues. Does anyone pull a comparable 5th wheel(size and weight).The Fuzion is 42.3ft, hitch wt. is 3290lbs, and the dry wt. is 14578lbs... I plan to pull across the U.S. so i want to make sure the truck is up to the task. Thanks for any opinions

Popular Forum Topic many threads out there for you to read through. Use the SEARCH option at top of Page to search for say 2500. My opinion not enough truck and then crossing the US I would not be comfortable at all.

I have a fuzion 310 and a 2012 gmc 2500 hd with dura max. It's close to weight. I have no issues what so ever. But if I was going to pull one across the country I would go with a DW. I have pulled it to Orlando from Louisiana so it will make the long haul. But I would say I wouldn't push my with a 390. Many forums on here about this. But having a similar setup no way I would push it cross country with a SW. Just my two cents

I agree that you may want a bigger truck for that size of camper. I have a Fuzion 395, and a 2008 Chevy 3500 Dually Duramax/Allison and it's maxed pulling it.

You have a great truck, but you're looking at too much trailer. I've pulled my Cougar across country a couple times and I can honestly say, any more trailer and I'd want a 3500 DRW.

The engine and tranny are the same for 2500/3500, but your going to be right at the pin weight and that's a lot of trailer for a 2500 suspension and brakes. Best to consider a 3500 DRW if you can

I have a 2011 2500, IMO that's just too much pin weight, about 800 lbs more than my old Jayco 291 RLTS and 900 lbs more than my current Alpine 3500. The overall weight of the trailer isn't an issue for your Duramax/Allison combo. I love my 2500 and don't want a DRW truck right now. That's one of the reasons I got the camper I have, but in a few years when the kids are grown the DW and I plan to do a lot of traveling. With as much as I like the 2500, when we hit the road full time I'm going to switch to a DRW.
With that said, you wouldn't be the only guy out there pulling that much with a 2500, but I won't be one of them.

You could do it safely, provided you added something to beef up the suspension and some higher rated tires. Just make sure your brakes are in good order on the truck. Personally I would prefer a DRW with that much trailer.
I would seriously doubt any DOT officer would ever look at you twice. (Bigger fish to fry) in 13 yrs of trucking transportation and RVing I have never seen or heard of any RV being stopped by DOT.
In fact in most states, you pay a fee and be issued a permit so you can exceed the standard 80,000 lbs gross tractor trailer weight with no modifications to your equipment. How much more depends on what you are willing to pay. MD was $1200.00 annually to go from 80k to 90k. They restrict you to certain routes, but all the major truck routes are there.

IMHO your truck will pull it ok but that pin weight is dry and will likely end up being 4K or more when you are all loaded up. This will put you at or over limits of your truck tires. I would not run this setup without airbags AND upgrading too 19.5" HD rims and tires.
You are in DRW territory here and above DRW in older models.

Little Joe, I do plan on adding airbags, and hd tires and rims. I've been looking at specs on the 2500 and this camper seems to still be in the 2500 limits. Just bought the truck 8 months ago, and really want this Fuzion 390, so i will try it and see, and if theres any concerns, il move up to the 3500. Thanks to all for their advice and opinions, This is why these forums are a good thing....

Personally, I'd take the hit on the trade and the cost of the 19.5 and truck tires and spend it on a dually.
Last year we were looking at 5'ers during a show and the DW fell in love with a Brookstone that had a similar pin weight to the trailer you're wanting. I also thought the trailer was a perfect match for us until I woke up from the dream world and started looking at what it would cost us to pull it. My 6 month old F250 with the 6.7 certainly had the power but I'd need to spend several thousand to upgrade the suspension and the tires and wheels to make it work. and even then I'd be waaaaaaaay over the registered weights of the truck and subjected to being fined even more should the unlikely event happen.
Sorry it was just to many strikes against the deal and I told the wife we'd need a bigger truck or a smaller trailer. Fortunately for our pocketbook she opted for the smaller trailer

I had a 2004 Everest 293P with a pin weight of 2340# empty. Loaded I rolled across the truck scales and was a little over the rated axle weight and over on the tire weight of my 2007 Classic 2500 HD with a Duramax. While it pulled it fine, I knew that if I ever got in an accident, I could be liable. Your pickup is much newer and probably has a higher weight rating, but not that much more. I know your tires will wear like hot butter on gravel. Personally, I would never have that much hitch weight on anything less than a dually. That being said, what is your hitch weight with the "toy" department loaded? Do you plan on pulling the trailer without a load in the back end? That's the game changer.

That is the heaviest weight Fusion model that Keystone makes. 15,185 lbs and 3410 lb pin weight. That would be full load for a 3500 DRW.

The engine and transmission in your 2500 is the same as a 3500, but the suspension and brakes would be the concern. I personally wouldn't tow it with a 2500. I just sold my 2500 and my travel trailer toy hauler when I decided I wanted to move up to a fifth wheel, knowing that I would need to upgrade my truck to a dully.
I looked at several Voltage toy haulers and after seeing the weight of the Voltage line up, I decided against them. In my opinion the Voltage TH's are so heavy they would be best towed with a 4500/450.

I have a new 390 and it is a great rig. I purchased an F350 DW and really feel like anything less would not be a good idea.
