Black tank sensor

We are in our first season with our raptor 297 and the black tank sensor display keeps reading 1/3 full, after emptying. Do we have a bad sensor or is something stuck on it? All other sensors seem to be working. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have a black tank flush, sometimes you have to let it wash for several minutes. Dumping our black tank this morning before leaving to head back home, i had to let our flush run approx 15 minuets till it showed empty, but also sometimes when it is flushing, the water spraying on the sensors can show 1/3 full till you shut it off, hope this helps. Happy Campin........Ron

Fyitmn -
Tank sensors, especially the black tank, are notorious for giving inaccurate readings. The main cause is that they become coated with "crud" --- TP, dried/moist solids, etc. There are a ton of posts/threads on this forum about this topic. Try using the forum search feature to read up on this and find out ways you can prevent or reduce this from happening.

thanks for the tips everyone. This may be a dumb question, but this is new to me and I am not seeing anything in the owners manual. My gauges read that I have two black tanks and two grey tanks. I have two levers for the grey to empty but only see one black. What am I missing here. Thanks again.

I doubt you have two black tanks unless you have two heads in that trailer...

Normally the gauges read fresh, black, galley and grey IN various order, with some models also having a battery gauge on the same panel..

That is where we were getting confused. We only have one head. Our gauges read from left to right. Battery, fresh water, then grey one, black one, grey two, black two. So far the only one that seems to read on the black is the first one. So we were thinking that it was a default panel for models that have multiple heads. We were not sure, so thought we wouqldmpost the question. It seemed odd. LOL. Thanks again for the help.

My bullet 246rbs has 2 grey meters but we only have the one tank. We assumed it was a generic panel that could be used with other trailers.

I guess I wouldn't worry unless that second Black started registering that it was filling up.

I also have a 297 with the 2 black digital gauges . When I picked mine up from the dealer they told me some models have 2 black tanks but the model I got only has 1 .

Fyitmn, Howdy;

I posted this over on the "Keystone Questions" thread.
Same basic question...

I've learned to disregard the 'lights', I relied on my senses.
In my travel trailer I could see (literaly), when the black was full.
Now in the 5'er, I can hear the tonal difference when flushing,
The water noise changes pitch when the level covers the down pipe
and makes a more 'hollow' or thinner sound when full. check it out
next time the level gets to the top...
Haven't looked at a gauge in 4 years.

Black tank sensor

The sensor(s) may have something on them. I have already had this happen in my new 2013 Fuzion 375.

When I contacted the dealer, the service dept supervisor told me to pour several bags (30#) of ice into the black tank and add some water while I was towing it in. The sloshing slurry acts like a scouring agent and cleans everything in the tank.
