With my 2015 Ford diesel, I can use the drive through speaker at McDonald's with the truck running. It's really no louder than my 2013 6.2L gas truck. Amazing to me that a diesel can be that quiet, but as I said, I can start the truck in my garage with the truck windows down and garage door closed, no smoke and no more noise than my wife's Escape.

And I just did my ritual every other week start/run on my '94 IDI. It is quieter than a 12V but still no drive through for me LOL!

X2 with the 2016 6.7. I can't even hide and scare anyone near it using the remote start like the 2004.5 Duramax and that was a quiet diesel for its time.

I have a Cummins 24v that actually sounds like a diesel and I don't eat McDonald's, so I guess I'm good to go! If you think that is loud, you should hear it warming up with the exhaust brake on.

Better than listening to a Harley...

LOL My DW was actually disappointed when we bought this truck. Her comment on the way home was that she couldn't stop at a redlight next to somebody, put it in neutral, mash the accelerator and drown out their "boombox stereo". She asked, "How are they going to know to get the heck out of the way if it's not loud enough for them to think we're an 18 wheeler with a Jake Brake?"...

The boombox with the bass that jellifies your spleen? Hate those. Exhaust brake time!

Yeah, that. Me like.

A friend over the border who used to drive trucks told me using those horns in KA will get you a ticket, because someone "overly sensitive" might get into an accident as a result of the aggressive noise. He really told me that. True?

They are not "legal" due to noise limits. We could discuss the "fun and scary" things that have happened. Maybe a thread in campground chatter?

There's more serious issues to comment on in that state besides illegal horn noise.

Yep got both of those and a dual trumpet Air Horn!! My 2001 Ram had the most weak a$$ horn, a Kia has a louder horn!

Did test drive a 2017 Cummins/Aisin and it was quiet.

When I was flying for a living, Anchorage was a frequent destination. The van driver taking me to the plane would often ask where I was going and remark that Alaska was cold. Often times it was warmer than where we were in the midwest, which surprised her.

Of course, the destination was Anchorage and not Fairbanks.
