Jacking up 5th wheel to remove wheels.

Is there any good videos or pictures of a tandem axle 14,000 lb 5th wheel with overslung springs being jacked up to remove the wheels? Where do you put the bottle jack or floor jack? Many people talk about it on many forums, but I can't find any good videos of people doing it.

At or between to u bolts holding the spring pack to the axles whether using a bottle or floor jack.
Been jacking from this spot for 45+ years on all types of trailers.
Some will maintain only jacking up from the frame, but from experience I've found you need a very tall jack &/or plenty of blocks to place under the jack which then tends to jack the trailer much higher than needed to remove the wheels, in my opinion that makes it more hazardous.
If you have the auto levelling system just push buttons til the wheels are off the ground.

The auto level system works pretty good if you're on level ground and impresses the guys at the tire shop.
If not that, I use a piece of 2"X 6" lumber under the spring bolts. The ends of the bolts will dig into the wood a bit and help stabilize. But, the piece of wood doesn't last for too many cycles.

I'd read for years about people doing this (photos below), but when the need finally arose, I made one myself. AND it worked great!







I transport it under the trailer where that BAL under carriage spare tire holder is located. You can see that carrier in the 3rd photo, under the trailer, near the rear. I just strap it on and it's ready for use. Most important, it's 100% safe, no jacks to fail, and no worries about putting bottle jacks in the wrong place under the frame, or even along side of the road if the trailer is on a serious side-to-side slope ... which would be very, very unsafe with a bottle jack.

I have 4 bottle jacks. 14,000 lb 5th wheel hooked up to my truck. Plan on taking two wheels off at a time. Would it be ok to put 2 bottle jacks under the I-beam next to the forward and rear spring hangers? Then use the other 2 bottle jacks under the axles between the U-bolts?

I think you'll have an "issue" using any jack on the I beam on the side where the black iron propane pipe is located. Usually, it's right under (and attached to) the I beam. So, one side you can do as you described, the other side, with the propane line, probably not...

So, the answer becomes, if you're unable to do it on one side, is it even necessary on the other side ????

Quick answer, just jack the axles on the spring hangers. No need to jack the frame AND the axles to lift the tires off the ground....

I'm with John! One side that may work, from my experience the gas line is usually in the way on the other. In my opinion your doubling the work using double the jacks.
