Auto slide in a long box???
Here in the next few months I will be swapping out my TV from a short box F350 to a long box F350. I presently have a PullRite 24K SuperGlide in the short box. I really don't see any reason I can't put the hitch into my new longbox. I know it will change the pivot point some when I back up but other than that are there any other issues that might come into play?

First and foremost, is just the extra weight of the slider vs. a non slider hitch. I'm not terribly familiar with the sliders, is there any way to "lock it out" so that it doesn't slide? If so, that is what I would do if you are going to keep the slider. Other than those two issues, I cannot think of anything else.

Bob, we have been using the Demco 21K for many years. and have absolutely no problems. I have two bolts in position to prevent the autoslide function. I'll PM you a doctored up photo of what we did.

Many thanks to the developers of the PM system....no photos.
Bob, I bought 2 grade 8 bolts, washers and lock nuts, 5/8" diameter and drilled where you see the red circles on the slide plates. I removed the pertinent parts you see with the large circles and stored them for later resale of the hitch.

IIRC Demco uses a “gate” on the hitch. Pullrite uses a “capture plate” on the pin box. Two different approaches to auto sliding. I’m not sure how you would lockout a pullrite, but I haven’t had any reason to look into it.

I went out and looked, other than drilling through the rails it slides on I don't see an obvious way to lock it out. I am not drilling through the rails so I will probably just deal with the pivot point changing and just be very careful. I will look into it some more, there may be a way to do it.

Whether it's in a short box or a long box truck, it will still operate the same way and will not cause any problems. We have around 70,000 miles on our Pullrite slider, and only have had to replace the cam follower bearing once and just recently the leveling spring under the head. Otherwise, they are a very solid hitch. The only disadvantage to the slider is having to be straight on to hitch or unhitch.

There is no way to “lock out” a SuperGlide. It uses a capture plate that moves the hitch head towards the rear as the tow vehicle turns, going either forward or backward.
Not sure it would be necessary either, as the weight behind the rear axle during a turning maneuver would only be there for a minimal amount of time.
